Riding the Waves of Change: Context, Culture, and Climate

The Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault is now accepting proposals from organizations and
individuals interested in presenting information and/or facilitating workshops at our 2015 Training
Symposium. This conference brings together over 120 people who are invested in responding to and
preventing sexual violence.
Presentations and workshop sessions will be organized around the following primary tracks:
 Advocacy and Services
 Advanced Advocacy
 Campus Communities
 Leadership
 Primary Prevention
 Advanced Prevention
All proposals must be submitted online and received by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2015.
Our theme this year is Riding the Waves of Change: Context, Culture, and Climate. This theme
acknowledges that our work, and the environment in which we do it, is constantly changing. While we
don’t always have control over it, we can choose to dive in, paddle hard, stand up, and engage with the
shifting tides and, ultimately, work to impact the direction of the waves.
We welcome proposals that address this theme by proposing topics that:








Address emerging issues in our field, such as campus sexual assault, PREA, the use of
technology in victimization, etc.
Share innovative solutions that are working in your community, as you define community
Address best practice or evidence-based approaches
Engage new audiences and allies, including through the media, social media, etc.
Incorporate an intersectional lens, inclusive of other forms of oppression, to our work
Spark conversations about where our field is going or needs to go
Build capacity for preventing and ending sexual violence
Address preventing the perpetration of sexual violence
We are particularly interested in workshop proposals that address the intersections of sexual violence,
including the disproportionate rates of sexual violence among youth, elders, LGBTQ people,
communities of color, people with disabilities, etc.; as well as intersections with other topics, including
alcohol, housing, health, transportation, homelessness, poverty, gender inequality, etc.
The presenter of accepted workshops will receive one (1) complimentary registration for the 2015
MNCASA Training Symposium and reimbursement for lodging and mileage expenses. For accepted
workshops with multiple presenters, the lead presenter will receive one (1) complimentary registration
for the 2015 MNCASA Training Symposium and reimbursement for lodging and mileage expenses.
CRITERIA
Proposals will be considered based on the following criteria:
 Workshop proposal articulates clear, specific and measurable learning objectives that are
relevant to symposium participants
 Workshop content builds participant knowledge or skills that advances our work to prevent,
respond to, and end sexual violence.
 Workshop incorporates best available research and/or is informed by sociological, behavioral,
social change, social justice, psychological or other theory.
 Content aligns with the theme as described above
Additional considerations:
 Sessions that focus on working in culturally specific communities are strongly encouraged.
 Sessions that incorporate an intersectional lens are strongly encouraged.

1. Proposal Checklist: Before submitting your completed proposal, please make sure you have all
of the requested information/material prepared below:

□ Presenters’ name(s), contact information, and biography (800 character max.)
□ List of recent presentations and contact information for a reference. If you have not
presented before, contact information for a reference only
□ Workshop description for conference brochure (750 character max.)
□ A minimum of 3 clear, specific, and measureable workshop objectives. (This document
on Bloom's Taxonomy can be used to provide guidance and ensure that your objectives
are truly measurable.)
2. Complete the on-line proposal submission form at:

3. PLEASE NOTE: Once you press DONE, your proposal will be submitted. You will be able to start
your proposal and return to it or edit it until you press DONE.
