Firestone
Modified Bitumen
Roofing Systems
Firestone is committed to advancing roofing technology, and has invested millions
into innovating new roofing solutions. Our state-of-the-art technical center in Fishers,
IN is the operations center for the chemists, engineers and technicians who develop
and test the latest roofing advancements, including SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene)
Modified Bitumen and APP (atactic polypropylene) products.
Firestone SBS Modified Bitumen Roofing Systems use new technology to
significantly strengthen and extend traditional asphalt roofing, resulting in stronger,
better performing roofs.
Firestone APP Modified Bitumen Roofing Systems feature a granule surface that
provides higher resistance to wear for a longer lasting, water-resistant roof.
Firestone Modified Bitumen Roofing Systems are available in a variety of installation
methods to best suit your application, including heat welding, hot asphalt and
cold-applied adhesive.
Superior compound formulation
Setting us apart from conventional asphalt technology, Firestone has developed a
proprietary blend of SBS polymers combined with select grades of refined asphalt for
a durable, flexible and exceptionally strong product. Its elongation properties and
cold temperature flexibility allow Firestone SBS Modified Bitumen Roofing

Innovative reinforcement technology
At the core of Firestone SBS Modified Bitumen Roofing Systems is a high-quality single reinforcing fabric
that embeds glass filaments in a non-woven polyester mat. This fabric provides superior resistance to
punctures, while the filaments add dimensional stability and tear strength.
Firestone’s SBS and APP Cap Sheets are made with a glass
reinforced polyester non woven mat, used in a variety
of SBS & APP Membrane systems including:
One fabric,
one process
• SBS flashing for traditional BUR systems
• SBS cap sheets and flashing for hybrid BUR systems
•S
BS base sheets, cap sheets and flashings for 2-ply modified
bitumen systems
An extensive line of modified bitumen products with proprietary
Non-woven polyester
provides flexibility and
puncture resistance.
Continuous glass fibers
provide strength and
stability
blends of SBS rubber and asphalt allows designers to select the
right combination of base and cap plies, achieving the optimal
strength and flexibility for each roof.
Our glass-reinforced polyester is not a laminated or dual-carrier mat—it’s a true single
fabric produced in one integrated manufacturing process. And it can be applied with
any method, whether heat fusion, hot asphalt or a cold-applied adhesive.
Firestone glass-reinforced
polyester resists low
displacement strain from
thermal stress and internal
tension.
Firestone glass-reinforced
polyester accomodates high
displacement strain from
structural movement and
point loading.

Why cool roofs matter.
Firestone’s modified bitumen membranes with UltraWhite granules provide greater light reflectivity and heat
emissivity, which means the roof stays cooler, with lower building energy consumptions and reduced demand for
electricity during peak periods. Reflective roofs using Firestone UltraWhite granules can also reduce the “heat
island effect” that occurs when developed urban areas have significantly higher average temperatures than the
rural areas surrounding them.

Firestone Modified Bitumen Roofing Systems are extremely versatile and provide
the architect, contractor and building owner with the ability to create new or
re-roof systems that fit a variety of climates, environments and applications. The
material’s intrinsic flexibility easily adapts to building movement and large
variations in temperature to accommodate all climates and applications. Simple,
economic installation options—heat welding, hot asphalt and cold-applied
adhesive—help save time and money.
Firestone SBS
Firestone SBS Modified Bitumen Roofing Systems combine exceptional elongation and fatigue resistance
properties with the strength of a glass-reinforced polyester mat. Available in white, black and other granule
surface colors, Firestone SBS membranes may be installed by heat welding, hot asphalt or cold-applied
adhesive.
Firestone APP
Firestone APP Modified Bitumen Roofing Systems are available in a variety of thicknesses in smooth and
granule surfaces. Reinforced with a tough, nonwoven polyester mat, Firestone APP membranes deliver superior
rooftop performance for both new and reroof applications. Firestone APP membranes may be installed by heat
welding or with cold-applied adhesives.
Firestone BuilT-Up Roofing (BUR) Systems
Firestone offers Ply IV (4) and Ply VI (6) asphalt impregnated, glass fiber mat reinforced roofing felts that can be
installed in multiple layers with a flood coat and aggregate or used in combination with modified bitumen.
The Ply IV (4) and Ply VI (6) felts provide superior durability and ease of application to construct Firestone
Built-Up Roofing (BUR) Systems. Self-Adhered Base Systems
The 2-ply Firestone Self-Adhered Base System combines Firestone BASEGARD™ SA Base Sheet with either
an APP or SBS cap sheet torch-applied directly over the base sheet. The system’s specification flexibility allows
specifiers to select the cap sheet best suited to job conditions and local installation practices. During torch
application of the cap sheet, the fiberglass-reinforced base sheet serves as an effective work platform and
thermal barrier. The base sheet also achieves complete fusion, assuring that the BASEGARD SA Base Sheet
works as a redundant monolithic waterproofing layer beneath the cap sheet.

better than other organic-faced materials. RESISTA is a
smart choice to add an enhanced degree of resistance to
any roofing system, standing out in the three critical areas
of thermal resistance, fire resistance and mold resistance.
ISO 95+ GL tapered
When a substrate slope will not permit efficient drainage,
Firestone Tapered ISO 95+ GL polyiso insulation provides
an effective and economical solution. Properly installed, it
can extend the life of the roof assembly by eliminating
problems associated with ponded water. Additionally, the
Firestone Tapered Network—a free service that uses the
latest technology to provide CAD drawings and other
information—works closely with the customer to make the
system as effective and easy-to-install as possible.
