Over the past 20 years, Firestone Building Products has manufactured and installed hundreds of versatile, economical, high-quality Modified Bitumen Roofing Systems. These time-tested roofs are durable, reliable and deliver exceptional performance in even the most extreme climates and applications. Our newest modified bitumen product, UltraWhite™, features a highly-reflective white granule surface for maximum reflectivity. Firestone Modified Bitumen Roofing Systems Firestone is committed to advancing roofing technology, and has invested millions into innovating new roofing solutions. Our state-of-the-art technical center in Fishers, IN is the operations center for the chemists, engineers and technicians who develop and test the latest roofing advancements, including SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene) Modified Bitumen and APP (atactic polypropylene) products. Firestone SBS Modified Bitumen Roofing Systems use new technology to significantly strengthen and extend traditional asphalt roofing, resulting in stronger, better performing roofs. Firestone APP Modified Bitumen Roofing Systems feature a granule surface that provides higher resistance to wear for a longer lasting, water-resistant roof. Firestone Modified Bitumen Roofing Systems are available in a variety of installation methods to best suit your application, including heat welding, hot asphalt and cold-applied adhesive. Superior compound formulation Setting us apart from conventional asphalt technology, Firestone has developed a proprietary blend of SBS polymers combined with select grades of refined asphalt for a durable, flexible and exceptionally strong product. Its elongation properties and cold temperature flexibility allow Firestone SBS Modified Bitumen Roofing Systems to resist thermal and structural movement—with flexibility even in temperatures below 0°F. o d i f i e d B i t u m e n R o o f i n g Innovative reinforcement technology At the core of Firestone SBS Modified Bitumen Roofing Systems is a high-quality single reinforcing fabric that embeds glass filaments in a non-woven polyester mat. This fabric provides superior resistance to punctures, while the filaments add dimensional stability and tear strength. Firestone’s SBS and APP Cap Sheets are made with a glass reinforced polyester non woven mat, used in a variety of SBS & APP Membrane systems including: One fabric, one process • SBS flashing for traditional BUR systems • SBS cap sheets and flashing for hybrid BUR systems •S BS base sheets, cap sheets and flashings for 2-ply modified bitumen systems An extensive line of modified bitumen products with proprietary Non-woven polyester provides flexibility and puncture resistance. Continuous glass fibers provide strength and stability blends of SBS rubber and asphalt allows designers to select the right combination of base and cap plies, achieving the optimal strength and flexibility for each roof. Our glass-reinforced polyester is not a laminated or dual-carrier mat—it’s a true single fabric produced in one integrated manufacturing process. And it can be applied with any method, whether heat fusion, hot asphalt or a cold-applied adhesive. Firestone glass-reinforced polyester resists low displacement strain from thermal stress and internal tension. Firestone glass-reinforced polyester accomodates high displacement strain from structural movement and point loading. o d i f i e d B i t u m e UltraWhite™ Modified Bitumen Cap sheet This one-step solution is the ideal way to get the advantages of reflective cool roofing in a modified bitumen system— without the need for liquid coatings after the roof has been installed. Firestone UltraWhite granules are applied to modified bitumen cap sheets during the manufacturing process to create a highly reflective surface for enhanced energy efficiency. Benefits include: –Factory-applied, permanent granule surface – Available in SBS and APP – Reflectivity consistent with the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) programs – Helps reduce heat island effects – Outstanding abrasion and puncture resistance – Can be applied with heat welding, hot asphalt or cold adhesive – Cleaner application without the use of coatings – 20-year Red Shield® Warranty available TE AM, L ONE P E ET AN N ET – 25-year Red Shield® Warranty or 30 year Platinum™ Warranty available O E M TE AM, L ONE P AN Red Shield® Warranty Protection n R o o f i n g M e m b r a n e Firestone UltraWhite™ Modified Bitumen Product Options Atactic Polypropylene (APP) Styrene Butadiene Styrene (SBS) – SBS Cap* – SBS FR Cap* – SBS Torch – SBS FR Torch – SBS Glass – SBS Glass FR – SBS Glass FR Torch – SBS Premium* – SBS Premium FR* – SBS Premium Torch – SBS Premium FR Torch *CCMC 13263-L – APP 180 – APP 180 FR – APP Premium FR – APP 180 FR COOL Why cool roofs matter. Firestone’s modified bitumen membranes with UltraWhite granules provide greater light reflectivity and heat emissivity, which means the roof stays cooler, with lower building energy consumptions and reduced demand for electricity during peak periods. Reflective roofs using Firestone UltraWhite granules can also reduce the “heat island effect” that occurs when developed urban areas have significantly higher average temperatures than the rural areas surrounding them.
