Muhimbili Orthopaedic Institute (MOI) is an autonomous institution established through an Act
of Parliament, Act No.7 of 1996 with the main objective of providing primary, secondary and
tertiary care for preventive and curative health services in the fields of Orthopaedic,
Traumatology and Neurosurgery as well as being a role model of efficient Hospital Management
in Tanzania. The Institute is also involved in human resources development for the nation and
also carries out research in these fields with the view of developing cheaper ways of treatment
for patients and reducing invalidity to members of the community.

1.0 Medical Doctor II ( 10 Posts)
1.1 Required Entry Qualification
Applicant must be a Holder of Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree or MBCHB or its
equivalent from a recognized institution. Must have completed one year internship
and be registered by the medical council of Tanganyika as a Medical Doctor.
1.2 Main Duties and Responsibilities.
 Attending inpatients and outpatients
 Attending emergency medical duties.
 Carrying out investigations of admitted patients.
 Ensuring that prescribed instructions are carried out.
 Conducting minor operations.
 Assisting Surgeons at operations.
 Carrying out service and participating in major ward rounds.
 Supervising medical students and interns in clinical duties.
 Ensuring that patients are properly prepared for surgery.
 Participating fully in morning clinical sessions, patient presentation and
journal clubs.
 Participating in research activities.


Participating in outreach programs.
Performing any other duties related to his/her work as assigned by his/her

2.0 Assistant Nursing Officer II ( 60 Posts)
2.1 Entry Qualification
Applicant must be a holder of Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution.
Must be registered by the Tanzania Nurses and MidwiferyCouncil.
2.2 Main Duties and Responsibilities
 Carrying general nursing care of patients
 Collect essential medical data
 Adhere to the rules and regulations of DDA.
 Administer drugs and other treatments as prescribed by medical doctors
 Provide health education to patients and their relatives.
 Participate in ward rounds
 Perform any other duties assigned by his/her supervisor

3.1 Entry Qualifications:
Applicant must be having completed Ordinary Secondary School Education with at least 1
year certificate in nursing course.
3.2 Main Duties and Responsibilities
 Carry out general cleaning of wards and its surroundings
 Give bed bath to bed ridden patients.
 Providing and removing bedpans and urinal bottles.
 To feed patients.
 Collect patient’s linen for laundry services.


Send specimen to laboratories and collecting results.
Perform other duties assigned by his/her superior.

4.0 Radiographer II ( 6 Posts)
4.1 Entry Qualification
Applicant must be a Holder of Diploma in Radiology from any recognized Institution.
Also must be enrolled in the register of Medical Radiology and imaging Professionals
as a Radiographer.
4.2 Main Duties and Responsibilities
 Taking Patient’s X- rays.
 Up keeping And Maintaining x- ray equipments and supervising sterilized radiology
instrument in the unit.
 Ensuring quality diagnosis of x-ray taken.
 Keeping and maintaining patients’ x- ray waiting for seniors to interpret and give
results.
 Supervising and training junior staff in the unit.
 Providing technical advice on radiation in the unit.
 Preparing contrast media and chemicals for x- rays.
 Processing x-ray films.
 Keeping and marinating patient’s records.

5.0 Laboratory Technologist II ( 4 Posts)
5.1 Entry Qualifications
Applicant must be a Holder of a Diploma in laboratory from any recognized
Institution. Also must be registered by the Health Laboratory Practitioners council.
5.2 Main Duties and responsibilities
 Assisting in receiving, extracting and recording samples for laboratory
examinations.
 Assisting in preparing laboratory equipments and chemicals for laboratory
tests and examinations.
 Assisting in inspecting and storing laboratory reagents, equipments and
chemicals used in laboratory tests and examinations.



Assisting in keeping and maintaining laboratory records.
Assisting in maintaining list of laboratory equipment in the unit.
Assisting in carrying out laboratory examination samples and recording the
results under the supervision of a senior laboratory technologist.

 Assessing and treating patient through physiotherapy techniques

7.1 Entry Qualification:
Applicant must be a Holder of Diploma in Orthotics/Prosthetic from any recognized
Institution. Also must be registered by the respective regulatory Board/Council.
7.2 Main duties and Responsibilities
 Advising patients and doctors on related technological issues.
 Keeping and Maintaining patients’ records
 Making casts and taking measurement as instructed.
 Fabricating various related appliances.
 Fitting of patients under the supervision and modification of defective
appliance with the guidance of superior staff.
 Examining patient before undertaking treatment.
 Advising patient on how to use and maintain artificial limbs and body support
devices.


8.1 Entry Qualifications:
Applicant must be Holder of a degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm.) or its equivalent from

by the National Pharmacy Council of Tanzania.
8.2 Main Duties and responsibilities
 Preparing annual drugs and treatment instruments requirement and its budget.
 Ordering, storing and dispensing drugs and treatment instruments in the
Institute.
 Keeping various records of drugs and treatment instruments.
 Preparing list of drugs and treatment Instruments for the Institute’s use.
 Making regular reconciliation of drugs dispensed against issues.
 Making regular reconciliation of drugs sold against revenue collected.
 Sorting out and listing drugs expiring within three months for the attention of

9.1 Entry Qualification:
Applicant must be a Holder of diploma in Pharmacy from any recognized Institution. Also

9.2 Main Duties and responsibilities.
Determine, prepare and ordering drugs and treatmentInstrument requirements.
Store and dispense dugs and treatment instruments as per prescription to patients and
staff.
Educate public/patients on proper use of medicines.
Providing information on reactions resulting from the use of medicine.
Prepare report on the use of drugs and treatment instruments in the Institute.




10. Medical Records Technician II (5 Posts)
10.1Entry qualifications :
Applicant must be a Holder of Ordinary Secondary School certificate and Medical
Records Certificate or its equivalent from a recognized Institution. Also must have
computer skills.
10.2 Main Duties and Responsibilities
 Collecting, tabulating, analyzing and interpreting disease and patient statistics and
circulating them to relevant end users of the Institute.
 Receiving and registering patients and directing them on where to go for attention.
 Giving appointments to patients
 Issuing files and identification cards to patients
 Receiving files for patients and collecting files from wards
 Updating information on admissions, discharges, and deaths.
 Creating and maintaining index in alphabetical order and tracing missing files.
 Facilitating availability of records and statistical data for carrying out research.
 Assisting in designing and maintaining a system for numbering, filing, storage and
retrieval of patient’s files and other documents.
 Assisting in periodic squeezing of files into shelves.
 Collecting and preparing daily and monthly statistical returns.
 Maintaining procedures for tracing misfiled and lost case notes and other documents.

11.1Entry Qualifications :


Designing Computer systems charts and providing the necessary system
documentation.
 Assisting users in systems analysis and design.

13.1Entry Qualifications :
Applicant must be a Holders of Advanced Diploma in Materials management or
NDMM or its equivalent from recognized Institution.
13.2 Main Duties and Responsibilities.
 Taking charge of stores and procurement section.
 Establishing stock levels and timely replacement stocks.
 Authorizing the receipt of goods and confirming its quantity and quality.
 Carrying out reconciliation of physical stocks against records.
 Ensuring maintenance and amendments of stock level figure.
 Ensures efficient stock control levels are maintained (Inventory Analysis and
Control).
 Responsible for clearing and forwarding activities.

Institute’s support.

 Preparing monthly trial balance and bank reconciliation statements.
 Verifying debtors and creditors statements of accounts.
 Preparing quarterly, half yearly and annual financial statements.
