Grade-8 Final Holidays Homework - MRIS Sector
HOLIDAYS HOMEWORK
Grade-VIII
Session 2015-16
Dear Parent
Keeping in mind the emerging viewpoint in higher education and thorough understanding
of today’s real life problems, an interdisciplinary approach is required and students who
are regularly exposed to classroom conversations and assignments that tackle real-world
problems in an interdisciplinary way engage in significant learning. The Holidays
Homework has been designed with the same objective in mind.
Please note that students should do the home assignments of all subjects in one scrap
book only. Kindly ensure that the students do a presentable assignment as it will be
assessed.
Principal
Note:
 All the work should be hand written.
 In case of any query, kindly contact the Class Teacher through E-mail.
TOPIC: AGRICULTURE
(INTERDISCIPLINARY)
ENGLISH:
A lush green field with crops ready for harvest is every farmer’s pride. They sweat and
toil from dawn to dusk to ensure proper cultivation of the land. A period of dry spell or
sudden showers might crash this dream into smithereens. In 1953 the noted film maker
Bimal Roy depicted the woes of the Indian farmers in ‘Do Bigha Zameen’. In the hope
of earning enough money to pay off his debts and save his land, a poor farmer becomes
a rickshaw puller in the Calcutta and faces many difficulties. Write a film review in
about 250 words exploring the conditions of the farmers in the past and present.
GUIDELINES:
 The film review must be neatly written.
 Paste/draw relevant pictures to make it interesting.
Hints:
Comment on the plot of the film- the characters and their hardship- how has
industrialization affected agriculture- the consequences of drought and
famine- huge debts to be paid off- the policies and reforms introduced by
the government in the present day to protect the farmers- how this film
hasn’t lost its sheen in the present century.
