Clover Patch Friends 4-H Club will meet Monday, May 4 at 5:00 p.m. at the Extension Office Robotics 4-H Club will meet May 7, 14, 28 at 5:30 and May 21 at 4:30 Consolidated 4-H Club will meet May 14 at 6:00 p.m. at the home of Teresa Roberts County Line 4-H Club will meet May 16 at the AM Strange Library. Cloverbud 4-H Club for ages 5-7 will meet May 19 at 4:00 p.m. at the 4-H Office. The program is on sun safety. Please call 841-9000 if you plan to attend. 4-H’ers registered to attend Club Congress May 27-29 must attend a MANDATORY meeting on either May 4 OR May 7th at 6:00 pm at the Extension Office. 4-H’ers must bring a parent to the meeting. Please contact Ms. Beth or Ms. Belvia to schedule an appointment to work on visuals or other contest preparations. All visuals must be approved by May 15th. One of the features of the 4-H Record Program is that junior ages 10-11, intermediate, and senior 4-H ’ers can complete the record report form on the computer. Juniors ages 8-9 records must be written, but juniors ages 10-11, intermediate and senior 4-H’ers are encouraged to submit typed records. (Handwritten records are accepted from all ages.) Report forms are Available from the Web at: http://msucares.com/4h_Youth/4hrecords/index.html. If you would like to submit hand written records, hard copies of each report form are available through your county Extension office or by printing from the www.msucares.com web site. Page 2 Lee County 4-H JUNIOR COUNTY CONTEST WINNERS AND PROJECT ACHIEVEMENT DAY QUALIFIERS Project Achievement Day is for 4-Hers ages 8-13 (as of January 1) and will be held June 19th at ICC in Fulton. Junior contest results are listed below. To receive County premium money, you must have scored 70% (indicated by an *). Remember, 4-Hers age 8-9 can only do a Cloverleaf Exhibit and Share-The-Fun, if qualified. Those ages 10-13 can participate in a contest and a visual. Please let us know as soon as possible what contest you will be participating in because others may be waiting for that spot! The deadline to register is May 15th. It is time to think about showing livestock. We need to purchase show lambs this month. Anyone interested in showing lambs, goats, beef cattle, swine, or dairy cattle, please contact me. Let me know if you are interested in showing a commercial heifer, I have had several people call with prospect heifers. Jan Garrett and I will be taking a group of 4-H’ers to a Livestock Judging Contest in Smith County on Saturday, May 16th. Let me know if you are interested. The Lee County Cattlemen are cooking hotdogs for a Blood Drive at United Blood Services on Friday, May 22nd. If you can assist with this event it will be greatly appreciated. Please keep Joe McCreary and his family in your prayers as he is having heart surgery on May 27th. Livestock Shows Dates Union County Goat Show – July 13 Union County Beef Show – July 17 & 18 Calhoun county Goat Show – July 22 Lee County Livestock Classic – August 14 & 15 Pontotoc County Fair Show – August 22 Alcorn County Beef Show – September 19 Mississippi State Fair – October 8-17 Poultry Club Poultry Club will meet following Aggies on May 12 th. Please try to attend this meeting and come prepared to pay for your chickens that have been ordered. The chicks will arrive the week of May 18 th, so please be making preparations. I will be in contact as soon as I know exact arrival date. Please have feeders, waters, heat lamps and other necessary equipment ready for the chicks. We have plans and examples of coops and pens in the Extension Office. Page 5 Lee County 4-H SHOOTING SPORTS Lee County had 54 4-Hers participate in the 2014 Northeast District Shooting Sports Tournament Saturday, April 25 th at Whitetail Ridge Shooting Center. I am excited that everyone did so well and for those that will be moving forward to the State Tournament. I will schedule a meeting for those that qualified for State and their parents in early June. Words cannot express the gratitude to the volunteers and parents for assisting with the tournament and especially the concession stand. ROPES & REINS Fundraiser at Driskill’s Fish and Steak in Plantersville is Tuesday, May 5th. Please turn in the number of plates you have sold by Monday May 4th. We will take walk-ins so don’t turn anyone away. Ropes and Reins will meet May 18th. The entries are in and we have 29 4 -Hers exhibiting in more than 200 District classes. Please call me if you are interested in participating in the non-riding events. You DO NOT have to be riding a horse in the District Show to participate in the non-riding events. We will be contacting you with practice dates and times. If you are not receiving the group text messages please let me know ASAP. Horse Art and Photography exhibits are due in the 4-H office by Friday, May 22nd. This is the absolute last day you may turn in exhibits. Monday, May 25 is a Holiday and the photos will be judged on the County Level on Tuesday, May 26 th. Entry forms can be picked up in the Extension Office. Important Dates for Ropes and Reins Members: June 10-13, 2015 – District Horse Show, Starkville, MS June 23- June 27, 2014 – State Horse Show, Jackson, MS Cook-out Contest I have not received any information on the Cook-Out Contest. Hopefully we will have date, time and place soon. If you are interested in cooking Hamburgers, Steaks, or other beef cuts, Pork Chops, or Chicken in the County and/or North Half, please let me know so I can get the date to you. Page 6 Lee County 4-H
