ANZAC REMEMBERANCE
This year for the first time, we celebrated ANZAC Day with a full school
assembly on Friday 24th April 2015. Our school choir sung a number of hymns
and we were then addressed by a member of the Petone RSA, Mr Ray Farrell.
Four of our students read the Ode and the poem Flanders Field before the
Last Post was played followed by a minute’s silence. It was great to see
parents and members of our wider community join in and share this special
occasion with us. A special thank you to Dyer Street School and Stokes Valley
Rest Home for attending.
HOUSE CAPTAINS
At last week’s assembly, two House Captains for each House were announced. This group of students had
to first be nominated by their peers, and then deliver a speech to their House explaining why they should
be chosen. Voting was then conducted and we are excited to announce to our community the following
students who have been chosen as House Captains for 2015. Congratulations to:
YELLOW HOUSE: Hosanna Aumua, Diamond Teariki-Tangohau
ORANGE HOUSE: Wiremu Te Moananui, Penina Sitagata
PURPLE HOUSE: Calais Hunt, Tyatiana Rakanui
GREEN HOUSE: Debra Tupuse, Nesian Sydney
Well done to these students. Mrs Pavihi will meet with this group of young leaders weekly to establish
their roles and responsibilities within the school and also to organise and plan upcoming House
competitions. Watch this space.
SCHOOL PRODUCTION
Preparation is well under way for our Production this year. Mrs Twomey, Mrs Uriaro and Mrs Pavihi spent
much of last weekend (which was supposed to be a holiday) working on the script and organisation for the
big event. Auditions have been held already for singing parts, this week we are auditioning for speaking
roles and next week we will be auditioning for dancers.
As we prepare for this, we would like to ask if any whanau have spare makeup they could donate to us; we
would be very grateful. Donations can be dropped off at the school office.
WHOLE SCHOOL SWIMMING
You should have received a Panui (notice), yesterday explaining all you need to know about swimming that
starts in Week 6 on Monday 25th May 2015. We need your support to ensure your child is prepared and
organised for each swimming lesson and we would appreciate prompt payment also. If you did not receive
a swimming notice, you can pick one up from the office.
KIDSCAN NIT BUSTERS PROGRAMME
This is available to all students attending Naenae Intermediate School. A clinic is operated at school by Pip,
who provides free of charge hair checks and treatment if needed. She can be contacted for an appointment
after 3.00 pm and she can also arrange to have your child treated at home if that helps. Call or text Pip on
021317780 for more information. We have consent forms at the school office if you need one.
