ABVP SPECIALTY & RECERTIFICATION EXAMINATION PREPARATION
ABVP SPECIALTY & RECERTIFICATION
EXAMINATION PREPARATION
32 CE credit hours (RACE approval pending)
This course is encouraged for candidates for the
American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP)
as well as anyone interested in a hard-core review
of general medicine. You do not have to be a
potential ABVP candidate to participate. However,
each subject is patterned after the actual percentage
breakdown of the exam — and should provide
in-depth coverage of topics participants need to know
to help prepare for the ABVP Certification Exam.
This course also includes two “Practice Practical”
examinations complete with written and visual
presentations, simulating the real ABVP test. Your
course instructors will immediately review your
Practicals to enhance your learning experience. This
truly is the industry’s best value for an ABVP prep
course when you consider all that’s included in your
trip (lodging, meals, course materials, etc.).
Take your feline/canine medicine skills to the max in
preparation for the ABVP exam or because you want
to be the best you can be.
“This course, taught by leading experts, is designed
to review all the major subject areas on the exams
as well as help with case report preparation and
other topics needed for this major career endeavor.”
— Douglas Mader, MS, DVM, DABVP (C/F, R/A),
DECZM (Herpetology), Marathon Veterinary Hospital
Learning Objectives:
Acquire the rigorous medical knowledge needed for
the canine/feline ABVP exam in the following areas:
• Cardiology
• Clinical Pathology
• Dentistry
• Dermatology
• Endocrinology
• Hematology
• Infectious Disease
• Metabolic
• Musculoskeletal
• Neurology
• Oncology
• Ophthalmology
• Urogenital Disease
Recommended Supplemental Reading:
There is no limit to study material. Participants planning on taking
the examination or recertification exam should be current on their
journals - Today’s Veterinary Practice, JAVMA, JAHA, Clinician’s
Brief, JACVIM, JVECC and others. In addition, a review of any
number of clinical textbooks are fair game for the test - Ettinger’s
text book of Internal Medicine, Current Vet Therapy, etc.

GETTING ANSWERS TO YOUR CASES
32 CE credit hours (RACE approval pending)
By completing this course, you’ll take home useful,
practical knowledge and straightforward tools you
can use in practice to help patients with the more
common behavioral problems.
Get in-depth coverage of important principles and
behavior topics pertinent to our companion animals.
See these principles in action during Hands-on
Laboratories. Through case-based learning —
challenging problems from your experience and
faculty combined — you’ll put these principles to
use in diagnosis and treatment plans. We’ll also
discuss science-based recent and pertinent behavior
articles to keep you up to date on the latest
discoveries in this ever-changing and growing field.
“It’s time for YOU to feel comfortable about helping
YOUR patients with behavioral problems! Together,
WE can make that happen!!” — Terry Marie Curtis,
DVM, MS, DACVB
Learning Objectives:
• Develop a working knowledge of behavior
basics and simple principles you can apply to
your own cases in practice
• Become comfortable with diagnosing problems
and formulating and implementing appropriate
treatment options
•U
nderstand various scientific sources that
present behavioral case and research
information so you can access them as needed
• Discover ways to discern “good” science from
“not so good” behavioral science
• Master the ways you can apply resource
information into your own practice
Case Requirements: The labs will focus on real cases
submitted by all participants. Please submit at least
one challenging behavior case by April 1, 2015.

ONCOLOGY, CYTOLOGY &
HEMATOLOGY IN YOUR PRACTICE
allison medical
32 CE credit hours (RACE approval pending)
Change your philosophical approach to cancer and
blood diseases with hands-on experience that
simplifies these seemingly complex topics. You’ll
learn the latest clinical approaches to common
hematologic and oncologic disorders through CBC
interpretation and evaluation (numbers, blood
smears and graphics); collection (with emphasis on
ultrasound-guided), preparation and interpretation
of cytology smears.
Cases are provided by the instructors, but you’re
encouraged to bring your own case material for
discussion as well.
“There just wasn’t enough time for cytology and
hematology in veterinary school – and as a family
veterinarian for five years before I began my specialty
training, I know what’s necessary in practice. With
personal instruction from an internist oncologist,
clinical pathologists, an ABVP certified practitioner
and an ultrasonographer you’ll get what you need
and more! No previous experience necessary!”
— Guillermo Couto, DVM, DACVIM (Internal
Medicine & Oncology)
Learning Objectives:
• Interpret CBCs (numbers, graphics and blood
smears) in patients with hematologic disorders
• Obtain good samples (with and without
