Position Description Position Details Title: Children & Parenting Support Worker Employment Status Full Time Working Days (Hours) 35 Hours per week / 5 Days Award Classification: SCHADS Level 3 Probation: 6 months from employment commencement Relationships Accountable to: ADSi Board of Directors through the CEO Reporting to: Community Services Manager Direct Reports: Nil Primary Roles The Children & Parenting Support Worker is responsible for providing crucial assistance to vulnerable families expecting a child or having children up to 12, through individual or peer support, parenting education, home visiting and community education programs. The role focuses on enhancing and strengthening relationship between parents and their children, as well as supporting parents to increase capacity to care for their children. Primary Duties Providing support to target clients, including needs assessment, referrals and linkages, parenting support and review of support needs Providing home-based family support and centre-based group work programs that help families overcome parenting difficulties Using a strengths-based approach to partnering with families in setting goals and achieving desired outcomes Developing and delivering appropriate activities to children for school readiness, and plans to families for transition to school Delivering outreach services at multiple locations where necessary and/or required, including but not limited to home visiting Effectively working with families and service partners for better service provision Reporting as per funding and agency requirements accurately, timely and independently Attend regular supervision and all relevant staff meetings Attend relevant training and professional development Maintain appropriate records and statistics Compliant with WH&S requirements at ADSi at all times Other duties that commensurate with the functions and roles of the position include administrative tasks Street 17 Macquarie Road, AUBURN 2144 | Postal PO Box 788, AUBURN 1835 p 02 9649 6955 | f 02: 9649 4688 | e [email protected] | w www.asdi.org.au Organisation Context Auburn Diversity Services Inc. Tertiary qualifications in Social Science/Work, Behavioural Sciences, Early Childhood Education or other equivalent 2. Experience in working with vulnerable families with children, including casework and home visiting 3. Demonstrated skills in providing age appropriate learning activities to children and their families / carers through group work 4. Ability to promote the development of positive parent/child relationships 5. Demonstrated understanding of child protection, early intervention, child development and the needs of children 6. Working knowledge of strength based approach and solution focused strategies including cross cultural parenting issues 7. Ability to liaise collaboratively with other team members and external stakeholders 8. Understanding and full commitment to Workplace Health and Safety, child protection practice and relevant legislations 9. Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to engage parents from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) background 10. Computer and internet literacy at an intermediate level, including Microsoft Office 11. Current Working with Children Check (Paid Worker) Clearance * Desirable: 1. Certification as a Practitioner in Triple P or Magic 123 or Circle of Security 2. First Aid Certificate and unrestricted NSW Drivers Licence 3. Ability to speak a second community language other than English * This is a children related employment position under child protection legislation.
