40 HOURS DEVOTION:
Join us as we unite in praise & thanksgiving to Jesus for Fr. Jude’s 40 years of priesthood and 18 years of service to our parish! The most valuable and lasting gift we can give our pastor as he prepares to leave our parish is the gift of our prayers. We will also have the opportunity to pray for our own intentions and our parish community going forward but most especially for Fr. Jude’s special intentions and the grace of healing for his eyes. This is how you can be a part of this prayerful gift! The 40 hours of devotion* will take place in the church or in our St. Benedicts Chapel during pre‐
designated times (see schedule on reverse side), beginning on Tuesday, June 9 and concluding on Friday, June 12. During those times, you may come to pray at any time before the Blessed Sacrament and stay as long as you wish. We also invite everyone who comes to pray to sign a journal that will be available and which will be given to Fr. Jude at his farewell Mass on June 14. The 40 hours of devotion will include certain periods of public prayer, such as the Rosary, which will then be followed by silent Adoration†. Everyone is invited to participate in reciting the public prayers (materials/prayers will be provided). During silent Adoration you may pray as you wish since it is YOUR personal time with Jesus. Many people just sit in Jesus’ presence and speak to Him from the heart as to a friend, read a spiritual book/bible, meditate on the Eucharist, pray favorite prayers, or just clear their heads and hearts to listen to the Lord. Please see the reverse side for the specific day/time schedule of prayer time. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made know to God. (Phil 4:16)

Unless otherwise noted, time spent in the Chapel will be for silent Adoration. Are children welcome to participate? Yes, children are invited to come pray with their parents. It is a great opportunity to teach/reinforce the presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament Who loves us and is truly there for us. In order for the prayer time to be pleasant for everyone, we ask parents to only stay in the chapel with their children however long they are able to stay quiet. †Adoration: Jesus is truly present ‐ Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity – in only two places: in heaven at the right hand of the Father AND in the Eucharist on earth! Understood simply, Eucharistic Adoration is adoring or honoring the Eucharistic Presence of Christ which is publicly displayed on the altar in an ornate vessel called the monstrance. During Eucharistic Adoration, we come in faith before Him and open ourselves to His graces which flow from the Eucharist. In its fullest essence...Eucharistic Adoration is "God and Man reaching out for each other, at the same time!" *The Forty Hours Devotion is 40 hours of prayer (public and/or private) before the exposed Blessed Sacrament where we come face‐to‐face with Our Lord in Eucharistic Adoration. The number 40 has sacred significance as it is found repeatedly throughout the Bible, including: the number of days Jesus fasted and was tempted in the desert, the days of rain causing the great flood during Noah’s time, the years of journey the Israelites wandered in the desert, and especially because that was the number of hours Jesus spent in the tomb between His death and resurrection.
