Pinserts
Snap-In inserts are a patented neutron
absorbing product that replaces lost
reactivity control or augments installed
neutron absorbers, extending the useful
life of fuel storage racks. The inserts are
installed in fuel storage cells using simple
tooling, which is operated above the pool
from the spent fuel pool bridge. Once
installed, the inserts become an integral
part of the fuel storage racks, allowing
fuel to be readily moved in and out of the
storage locations. Snap-In inserts provide a
cost-effective solution to neutron absorber
degradation and higher enrichment fuel
storage at a fraction of the cost of a re-rack.
Pinserts provide a cost-effective means to
ensure Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR)
spent fuel sub-criticality in both wet and dry
storage. They are an alternative to spent
fuel storage rack inserts should there be
station operating concerns regarding spent
fuel assembly bow or twist and rack cell
storage capacity to accommodate fuel
assembly distortion.

Badger is a revolutionary device, which
performs in-situ measurement of the B10
areal density of neutron absorber material
installed in spent fuel racks for the purpose
of reactivity control. Badger utilizes a
californium neutron source and detector
array (boron triflouride) to measure neutron
transmission through the spent fuel rack
absorber panel. The californium source and
detector array are both enclosed in their
respective Badger source and detector
heads.

physics, fuel management and licensing
support.
We are experts in the qualification,
acceptance and surveillance testing of
neutron absorber materials for utilities
and original equipment manufacturers.
Our services include neutron attenuation,
accelerated corrosion, elevated
temperature, and accelerated radiation
testing. Neutron attenuation testing is
performed to determine B10 areal density.
