The SELECTORS of New Art West Midlands 2016 are: Sonia Boyce, Artist, Professor in Fine Arts, Middlesex University and Professor of Black Art and Design, University of the Arts, London John Stezaker, Artist Katharine Stout, Head of Programme, ICA London *CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FROM RECENT VISUAL ARTS GRADUATES * Following the success of New Art West Midlands 20132015 Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery in partnership with mac Birmingham, Wolverhampton Art Gallery and The Herbert Art Gallery, Coventry is organising a series of high profile selected exhibitions of work by recent visual arts graduates from the five regionally-based university art schools. The aim of the exhibitions is to profile the best work with a Fine Art emphasis – in sculpture, painting, photography, mixed media, installation, digital media, video/film art, live art/performance - emerging from the university art schools in the West Midlands since 2013 and offer new visual arts graduates a high quality professional development opportunity. ELIGIBILITY You are eligible to apply for this opportunity if you graduated or are graduating at BA, MA or PhD level from the following universities in the years 2013, 2014 or 2015. — Birmingham City University — Coventry University — Staffordshire University — University of Wolverhampton — University of Worcester Artwork can be in any media including live art/performance, but must have a Fine Art practice orientation. Disciplines focused on the areas of craft or design are not eligible. If you applied for New Art West Midlands 2014 or 2015 you can apply again for 2016, but if your work was included in the 2014 or 2015 exhibitions, you will not be selected for exhibition again. THE EXHIBITION The multi-sited exhibition will be displayed at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, mac Birmingham, Wolverhampton Art Gallery and The Herbert Art Gallery, Coventry between 12 February and 15 May 2016. Artists and/or artworks will be selected in July 2015 following the initial application process. ARTISTS’ OPPORTUNITIES Artists selected for New Art West Midlands 2016 will also be eligible to be selected by venue curators to receive one of five prizewinner awards as well as being considered for further artist’s opportunities such as residencies and/or exhibitions offered by galleries across the West Midlands region. HOW TO MAKE AN APPLICATION Please complete the following for your application in digital format: — Artist’s statement (500 words maximum).This statement should include information about your artistic practice and describe the work you have submitted as part of your application. — A maximum of 5 images or digital files that best represents your practice as jpegs, weblinks to Vimeo or YouTube and/or equivalent media (maximum 5MB in total). If submitting video/film or filmed live/art performance please send weblinks, NOT screenshots. Please remember to give your images legible file names and clear details of links if your work can be viewed online, including your details and the title of each work. — The attached Application Form, completed with your contact details and outlining the title, media, date, format and dimensions of each of the artworks submitted as supporting visual material (including any specific technical or display requirements of the work) SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION By emailing digital files and/or links to your uploaded content (maximum 5MB in total) to [email protected] DEADLINE The deadline for applications is 5pm, Monday 29 June 2015 We regret that Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, mac Birmingham, Wolverhampton Art Gallery and The Herbert Art Gallery are unable to respond to unsuccessful applications individually. Selection will take place during July 2015 and only successful applicants will be informed.
