CIDCO to undertake pioneering project by
adopting Jasai gaon for rural development
By Vikram Gaiwad and
Chandrashekhar Hendve
NAVI MUMBAI: CIDCO, in breaking new
grounds, have taken an
initiative to adopt the
Jasai village located in
the vicinity of JNPT to
develop it into smart
city which will be integrated with smart garbage disposal system
that is to be the first
phase of the project. As
inaugurated by the CIDCO Managing Director Sanjay Bhatia, the
proposal was discussed
with ex MP Ramsheth
Thakur, CIDCO Chief
security officer Dr.
Pradnya Sarvaday, Jasai Sarpanch members
Santosh
Gharat,
Suresh Patil, Naresh
Gharat, Atul Patil,
and other CIDCO rep-
resentatives on Friday.
CIDCO has been responsible for many major development ventures like the international airport project
and just as that, it has
now undertaken a
project to minimize the
difference between rural and urban areas.
Therefore, in lieu of
that the company has
adopted the village
that doesn’t have the
same facilities as the
city it is located in.
Therefore, ‘CIDCO
hopes that this would
be a pivotal project to
encourage more rural
development projects’
said Sanjay Bhatia.
Further, the project
promises to make the
village a ‘zero debris
zone’ as the sewage
treatment plant that
has been set up in the
village which will help
in garbage disposal, recycling and manure
production. Moreover,
as a part of rural development a dam
project along with other infrastructural ventures are to undertaken in near future. CIDCO has also made
plans to initiate employment schemes in
the area.

CIDCO carries out a drive against illegal
businessmen at Vashi railway station
By Chandrashekhar Hendve
VASHI: City and Industrial Development
Corporation carried out
a drive against illegal
hawkers at Vashi railway station. But some
onlookers were of the
opinion that this was
another drama that is
being staged by CIDCO.
CIDCO’s flying
squad took action
against illegal hawkers, hotel owners etc.
by demolishing their
shops on 7 May 2015.
These hawkers and hoteliers were those who
indulged in selling fruit
juice, vadapav, panipuri etc in the fore court.
But they had begun to
misuse the CIDCO-provided Kiosk by carrying
out other businesses illegally.
This place is under
the charge of VRSCCL
and also there are CIDCO’s security person-
nel who keep a watch
for 24 hours and also
CIDCO officers and
workers take constant
rounds to survey this
place but yet these
hawkers and shop owners have dared to come
up with illegal business
structures over here.
These illegal businesses continue to persist
here in spite of the fact
that action is being taken against these illegal
businessmen by CI-
DCO twice or trice per
year. Owing to the presence of these illegal
stalls, the population of
beggars over here has
risen too thus creating
problems for city residents and commuters.
A commuter commented that it wouldn’t
take long for these
hawkers to make a
comeback to this place
and carry out their illegal businesses once
again.
Woman complains of having been raped by Ulhasnagar’s politician

made so far.

pended and he had to
come to CIDCO regularly just to sign the
muster. Bagul’s wife is

NMMC’s garden department The traditional Chaitra Mela
gears up for monsoon
Fair extended till May 10
By Meena R Prashant
BELAPUR: To ensure that nobody gets
injured during monsoon due to falling of
tree or branches, the
Navi Mumbai
Municipal
Corporation
(NMMC) garden department
has
started its
annual premonsoon
drive during
which the corporation
trims
the
trees across
all nodes under its jurisdiction and
removes the dead trees
every year before the
onset of monsoon.
While the city is
known for its greenery
all around, falling of
trees during monsoon
is a major concern.
Keeping this in mind,
trees, which are near
footpath, streetlights
and power supply, are
being pruned and this
work has already be-
gan.
“We began the work
early this year and
have completed over
40% of the work and
are sure to complete
rest of the work before
the deadline 31 May.
The vehicles are sent
on round for two-three
days in each node
where the trimming of
trees is done,” said
Chandrakant Tayde,
head of the garden department of NMMC.
As per the statistics, in the year 2012,
around 120 cases of
tree falling were reported in various
nodes of the city, while
in 2013 around 100
cases were reported.
However, during 2014,
400 trees in total are
either damaged or
completely
uprooted. The
major damage was seen
between Koperkhairane
and Ghansoli
“The drive
is undertaken
before
monsoon so
that big and
overgrown
trees do not
fall during
heavy wind and cause
accidents or road
blockage. Since the
growth of grass is fast
we are also trimming
the grass in the gardens in all the nodes,”
added Tayde. The civic body also carries
out an annual drive of
planting 75000 trees
every year during the
rainy season, which
helps in increasing the
greenery of the city.
PMC bus project to cover
areas up to 15 km
By Umesh Parida
PANVEL: The Panvel
municipal council has
proposed bus service
which will cover areas
up to 15 kms from any
side of the city. The bus
service will cover Taloja, Khaghar,
etc
areas
whereas it
may go down
further towards Shirdon and also
t o w a r d s
Chowk.
The Shirdon area is
along
the
Mumbai Goa
highway
w h e r e a s
Chowk is along the old
Mumbai Pune highway. According to an official, the bus service
will be extended up to
15 km on either way.
There are many areas that the PMC may
opt to have their bus
service cover, keeping
in mind the autorickshaw service. If the areas are covered then the
autorickshaw business
will be hit in the days
to come.
It can be noted that
the PMC will spend Rs
30cr in this fiscal year
2015-16 for the proposed city bus service.
Out of this, Rs 29 cr will
be on bus purchase
whereas Rs 1 cr for the
private bus service purpose. Current status is
that the bus procurement process is complete.
The major issue is
finalizing the operator.
The operators feel that
PMC should be serious
about bidding and developing infrastructure facilities. This
will enable
them to operate smoothly.
The infrastructure facilities include
the bus depot
which is a
major point of
contention
now.
Total 140
buses will be on the proposed service as the
first part of set up. As
per the PMC proposal,
14 mini buses, 42 midi
and 84 large buses will
be bought for service.
The buses will play on
various routes.

End gender bias
Any attempt to perpetuate gender bias must be nipped in the
bud. Any publicity disturbing sex ratio must be sternly dealt with.
The 2011 census showed that for every 1000 boys there were only
914 girls. We have, down the ages, been battling with the social
disease of preference to a male child to that of a girl child, in India.
If rationalism and true scientific approach are shed in order to
facilitate obscurantism and dogma, the future of India does not
look so bright!
The recent trend of referring to actresses as ‘actors’ in the
media, on the specious plea of doing away with discrimination on
gender, is a good idea. So that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan or Rekha
is referred to as ‘actor’ Aishwarya Rai Bachchan or ‘actor’ Rekha.
This will certainly do justice to those people feeling ‘oppressed’
by the concept of male domination.
In most countries, women receive second class status, with their
rights severely restricted in many cases. Even in more advanced
countries with laws to prevent gender discrimination, women still
earn less than men and receive less respect. Reducing gender
discrimination is a lofty goal with many obstacles. Though government regulations certainly help the situation, the real method to
reduce gender discrimination is through education and changing
the ways that people think about gender roles.
Pay attention to the ways that you form gender in your children’s upbringing. Children learn gender at an early age from the
people around them—little girls learn to play with dolls, while little boys play with trucks.
Reduce gender discrimination in the classroom. Without realizing it, many teachers favor male students. This may come in the
form of asking boys more difficult questions or interrupting girl
students while they are speaking.
Provide adequate health care to all people. Without health care,
women are at a higher risk for death due to complications from
pregnancy. This is especially true in developing countries.
The media often represent negative images of both genders—
women are stupid, weak and should be sexually available at all
times; men should avoid their emotions and are animals that cannot control their sexual desires. As these types of images repeat,
they become so enmeshed in the psyche of society that some people accuse a woman who’s been sexually assaulted of deserving
the assault.
Recruit men in the fight against gender discrimination. Men
should take part in resisting gender discrimination—by treating
women with respect, by paying female employees the same rates
as men. With the proper company policies in place, discrimination
can be reduced or eliminated.
When managers get together to discuss hiring a candidate, the
information given should be based on the candidate’s qualifications. The candidate’s name and gender should be kept out of the
final decision process. When considering promotions within the
company, use the employee’s accomplishments and background
without including the name or gender in the discussion. All qualified employees should be considered for promotions based on their
record with the company.
It is unlawful to discriminate against anyone based on their gender, according to federal law outlined by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. When you make employees understand the legal consequences of gender discrimination, you can
make gender equality part of your corporate culture. When new
employees enter the company, they will be entering an environment that is gender friendly.

Right step in the right
direction
Turning BKC into Smart BKC as per the Urban Renewal and 100 smart cities project is a right
step in the right direction. As Mumbaikars, we
were eagerly awaiting such a smart scheme in the Metro Mumbai since
we are one of the top cities in the world and we need to update our infrastructural need as per the world standards to make our dream of modelling in the line Shanghai. While Rs 48,000 crore has been sanctioned for
100 smart cities, now renamed Smart Cities Mission, another Rs 50,000
crore has been sanctioned for
Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (Amrut) of 500 cities.
States along with local bodies and corporate entities
have to spend the most in
the projects to make it a
most sought after project.
The Amrut project could
lead to cities becoming
smart subsequently. However, for private sector players
to invest in this space, most
cities would have to take a
relook at their tariff structure for urban services so that they not only
recover the cost of service delivery but are also able to service these investments. Central assistance to Amrut will be 50 per cent of project cost
for cities and towns with a population of up to a million and one-third of
the project cost for those with a population of above a million. Central
assistance will be released in three instalments in the ratio of 20:40:40
based on achievements. Amrut seeks to lay a foundation to enable cities
and towns to eventually grow into smart cities.
We were longing to see such an initiative to get the maximum benefit
from the infrastructural angle. This includes schemes like seem less WiFi, Smart streetlights and Citizen apps among other facilities. It will be a
milestone in making of a new Mumbai city with up-to-date technology at
our disposal. The proposal is a must for a developing country like India
and more so for Mumbai.
Government on their part should give maximum publicity to make
this scheme feasible with a right approach. In my opinion more and more
kiosks should be installed in the special Smart BKC to get the latest
information about the facilities available under this scheme so that more
and more people will take advantage and benefit from the scheme and
make the Government’s dream come true in all spheres.
