Newtown Presbyterian Church Job Description Hiring Authority: Personnel Committee & Head of Staff Supervisor: Associate Pastor Status: Part-time Employee (6 hrs/week for 40 weeks) Youth Ministry Associate Proposed & Approved by CE: 5/26/15 Approved by Session: 6/2/15 Job Overview: The role of the Youth Group Assistant is to be a programmatic staff person to assist in the development and implementation of programs within the Christian Education department of the Church as determined with the Associate Pastor of Christian Education, the Director of Christian Education and Christian Education Committee. 1. Key Responsibilities: Based on the mission and vision as established by Session, and working within the Christian Education (CE) Committee’s guidelines as presented by the Ministry Intern/Associate, plan and implement activities primarily for the Junior High (6th-8th Grade) Youth Programs including: a. In cooperation with the Associate Pastor for Christian Education, planning and implementing fellowship program activities for youth group meetings (Sundays from 5:00 – 7:00 pm). b. In cooperation with the Associate Pastor and Director of Christian Education, organizing and leading the Junior High Sunday School program which is currently using the Re:form curriculum. c. Assisting the Associate Pastor with recruitment of volunteers for youth ministry program implementation. d. Assisting with other 6th-8th Grade educational programs at the Church as (e.g. lock-ins, volunteer and outreach opportunities, mission trips, vacation bible school, etc.), as budgetary and expanded hourly limits allow. 2. Qualifications/Requirements: a. Possess, or in process of pursuing, a post-secondary degree (preference in a field of Religious studies and/or Education) b. Excellent interpersonal skills and organizational skills c. Experience working with youth (preference in a church or similar Christian ministry setting) 3.
