Suggestion Box A suggestion box is placed on the table just inside the door. Please make use of this to put forward your views. Please include your name so we can get further information and keep you informed. Web Page I’m back from my trip to London to visit my UK family. Although I was at the February meeting I was too jetlagged to conduct the meeting and I would like to thank Pat Brown for standing in for me both at the Committee Meeting and the Branch Meeting. What a great speaker we had at that meeting attended by 85 people. This was a lawyer, Brian Hird, who obviously enjoys his work and he entertained us for nearly an hour without boring any of us. I would also like to thank the golfers for their efforts in catering for the February branch meeting - well done guys and girls!! We will be asking for assistance with catering at the March branch meeting. Arrangement are unknown at the moment but will be discussed at the Committee Meeting this week. Are there any volunteers who could offer to help in any way?? We already have an Outings Policy set in place a year or so ago but it is necessary to fine tune a few points in order to avoid any misunderstandings regarding payment in future. Once all points are clarified and all possible eventualities are covered the committee will make the whole document available to all members. John Bayne has been updating our Website and would like current photos from the Interest Groups – some of the photos are quite dated now. Please try and help get your information up to date. INSIDE THIS ISSUE John Bayne has been working hard on our website in his limited spare time but he is urgently seeking more up to date photos, particularly of the Interest Group activities. If you visit the website you will notice that some of the photos are VERY dated and probably should be deleted but it would be nice to have some new photos to take their place. A big thank you to John for all your hard work on this project. 1 Presidential Comments, Mailing. Badges. Payment of Fees, Suggestion Box 2 Interest Groups, Supporters. Zone 102 Conference 2015 Notice has been received of our NSA Zone Conference which will be held on Friday 22 May. All members (not just committee executives) are encouraged to attend, and take the opportunity of expanding our horizons beyond our branch. More details to come in the next month, but the line-up of guest speakers for the day, and the opportunity to network with other seniors groups, make this annual event something not to be missed. Our organisation has been a high profile force in recent times, successfully giving voice to seniors on community and financial issues, and ensuring we are heard by the various levels of government. This event which is being hosted by the Aspley Branch of NSA is being held at the Tavernetta Function Centre, 144 Dorville Road Carseldine, and will be a great opportunity to both support, and learn more about the NSA and what it does for us as Members. Also check 50something for special offers and benefits for NSA members. Exercise for people over 60 years 1. Begin by standing in a comfortable position, feet 12 inches apart, & plenty of room either side. 2. With a 5lb potato bag in each hand slowly raise your arms until they're horizontal & hold the position for as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, & then relax. 3. Each day you should find that you can hold this position for a bit longer. 4. After a couple of weeks, move up to 10 lb potato bags. 5. Then try 50 lb potato bags, & then eventually try to get to where you can hold two 100 lb potato bags at arm's length for a full minute. (I'm at this level now!) 6. After you feel confident at this level, put a potato in each bag. Golf Report This year we have 22 members and have introduced a new competition. This is in the form of a Silver Medal played for over 11 months on the first playing day of each month. All members are eligible to play. The 12th Gold Medal, only previous monthly winners are eligible to compete for this Medal of Medals. The winners so far are January-Trevor Gage, February-Terry Hamilton & March-Bob Haynes. We had a smaller than usual group since some of the regulars were unable to attend, most being away on holiday. The session was all about close up or macro (close up) photography, and we had some unusual items to focus on. Some of the small items we photographed Makes a miniature look like the real thing. The bottle was about 6” tall!! Independent Trips On the 8th February twenty members plus a young traveller (Jo and Vince’s granddaughter Katie from N/Z) met at “Clouds” in Montville for an excellent 4 days of fun and sightseeing as part of the latest Independent Trip away. Close proximity to the Sunshine Coast makes easy access to many activities. The venue at “Clouds” was excellent and had undergone recent renovations and additions by the new owners, Stephanie and Phil. They made us all welcome and went out of their way to assist with anything that we needed. Their son Andrew took some group photos for inclusion on their website. They are intending promotion of Seniors and other group packages. The Happy Snappers meetings are open to all members who may have an interest in practicing or learning about your camera and photography techniques. We are currently reviewing venues suitable for extra attendees, and welcome casual and regular participation. Sessions can be arranged for user preferred subjects. The next Happy Snappers meeting will be at Brian's place at the usual time of 7:30pm on Wednesday, March 18. Don't forget to bring along your photos from February's meeting. John Bayne and Brian Mathiesen with photos by Marion. Guest Speakers Our guest speaker for March 13 will be Charlie Cacciola. His topic will be -‘My Journey- the Unpublished Memoir.’ Charlie will take us from his humble beginnings in Sicily through childhood in Australia to the changed modern world we live in to-day. April 10 - A Tribute in Remembrance of the Centenary of the Gallipoli landing, hopefully with members’ involvement. May 8 - Victoria Gill (Green Apple Gym) will speak on how seniors can keep fit and healthy as they age. June 12 - Trivia Night (Get your brains into gear?) Sunday evening was BBQ night, using the new BBQ facility, and also enjoying happy hour in the Balinese lounge. The next few days saw the group spread out over different areas of interest, with café’s, cheese factory, tourist sights, golf, shops, dairy tour, etc. Some travelled to Nambour, Caloundra and Maroochydore. Six golfers played Caloundra golf course. Thanks to Ray and Trevor for their great efforts to organise the venue and events. John B. Pat Brown (Thanks to Pat for organising our interesting speakers.
