Waves Set to Begin Third Season in NECBL
As they take on the New Bedford Bay Sox tonight at Old Mountain
Field, the Ocean State Waves begin their third season in the NECBL.
Founded as an expansion team in 2013, the Waves have made the
postseason twice in their previous two seasons in the league, winning
48 games in the process. The Waves also won their first playoff game
in franchise history in 2014, edging out the Newport Gulls, 4-2, in
Game One of the NECBL Southern Division Semifinals. With nine
players and two coaches returning in 2015, the Waves look to start the
2015 campaign on the right foot against the New Bedford Bay Sox.
Nine Players Return to Waves in 2015
Coming off a 2014 campaign in which they won 24 games with a
postseason victory, the Ocean State Waves welcome nine returning
players to Old Mountain Field in 2015. In addition to 2014 NECBL AllStars INF Robby Rinn (Bryant) and OF Ryan Blanton (Georgia
State), the Waves welcome back OF AJ Ramirez (USC), RHP Matt
Murphy (Assumption), RHP David Gerber (Creighton), C Buck
McCarthy (Bryant), RHP Brad Applin (Rhode Island), RHP Oliver
Powers (Bryant), and INF Tim Lynch (Southern Miss). Each player is
primed to make a major contribution for the second straight summer.
Three Waves Shine at NCAA Division I Regionals
This past weekend, three 2015 Ocean State Waves made an impact
for the USC Trojans in the Lake Elsinore Regional in the NCAA
Division I Baseball Tournament. AJ Ramirez drove home six runs in
the regional, including a two-run bomb against San Diego Sate on May
31. Freshman reliever Mason Perryman hurled four innings of long
relief in the Regional Final against Virginia, striking out three while
allowing just one hit. In the eleventh inning of the Regional Final,
sophomore reliever Andrew Wright struck out a hitter to end a jam for
the Trojans, who finished second in the regional to Virginia.
Next Three Games for the Ocean State Waves:
FRIDAY, JUNE 5: at Danbury Westerners (Rogers Park, 6:30 pm)
SATURDAY, JUNE 6: at Mystic Schooners (Fitch High, 6:05 pm)
MONDAY, JUNE 8: at North Adams SteepleCats (JW Field, 6:30 pm)
