Orange Destination ImagiNation Teams Win Honors
at Jefferson Region Tournament
March 26, 2015
The 2014-2015 Destination
ImagiNation (DI) season has been a
successful one for Orange County
Public Schools (OCPS). Nineteen
OCPS teams participated in the
Jefferson Regional DI Tournament
held on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at
Western Albemarle High School.
Nine of those teams placed in their
respective challenges. Eight of the
teams received regional honors and
will advance to Virginia’s DI Affiliate
Tournament which will be at
Spotswood High School in Penn
Laird, Virginia on Saturday, March
28, 2015.
The following teams took honors at
the Jefferson Region Destination
Imagination Tournament and will
advance to the Affiliate Tournament:
Orange Elementary School’s “Rising Stars” team competed on Saturday.

Orange County High School: 1st place to Ms. Spalding’s team in the technical challenge and
3rd place to Mr. Karish’s team in the improvisational challenge.
Prospect Heights Middle School: 1st place to Mr. Lumsden’s team in the structural challenge
and 2nd Place to Mr. Lace’s team in service learning challenge.
Orange Elementary School: 1st place to Mr. Ernst’s team in the structural challenge and 3rd
place to Ms. Rose’s team in the service learning challenge.
Gordon-Barbour Elementary School: 2nd place to Ms. Vine’s team in the service learning
challenge and 3rd place to Ms. Marshall and Ms. Hoosier’s team in the scientific challenge.
Not advancing but worth recognition is Lightfoot Elementary School’s 3rd place honor to Ms.
Clemmer’s team in the scientific challenge.

Destination ImagiNation (DI) is an international creative
problem solving program that offers children and youth
in kindergarten through university level a chance to
showcase their critical thinking, presentation,
brainstorming, time management and research skills,
by solving challenges in five different areas of interest.
The program encourages creative and critical thinking
by teaching students that there are many ways to
approach and solve problems. Although DI is a
competition, the program focuses more on team
building that helps students develop lifelong abilities
like collaboration, courtesy and valuing diversity.
