ORANGE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS TAYLOR EDUCATION ADMINISTRATION COMPLEX 200 DAILEY DRIVE ORANGE, VIRGINIA 22960 www.ocss-va.org 540-661-4550 Fax 540-661-4599 Press Release Local Student Wins Regional Award In 2015 VSBA Art Contest April 16, 2015 Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) is proud to announce that Locust Grove Primary School’s Abby Heffer, was the First Place “Elementary Winner” in the 2015 Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) Central Regional Art Contest held on April 7, 2015 at Fluvanna High School. Local School Board members were treated to an impressive display of creativity from students throughout the region. Winning art is framed and displayed in the offices of the VSBA in Charlottesville and the Richmond offices of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Locust Grove Middle School’s Savannah Olson and Orange County High School’s Yiashura Wright also represented OCPS in the regional contest. Heffer, Olson and Wright Abby Heffer’s Chimp took First Place in the elementary category at the were among 72 students who competed in VSBA Central Regional Art Contest. Orange County’s competition where “Best in Show” ribbons were awarded by a panel of local artists. This award advanced them to the regional competition. “People’s Choice” ribbons were also awarded locally to students based on votes that were cast by school division employees and by visitors to the exhibition, staged at the Taylor Education Administration Complex in Orange. “People’s Choice” winners included: Alexa Roland, Locust Grove Primary School; Micki Konetzka, Unionville Elementary School; Carma Lightfoot Simms, Lightfoot Elementary School; Ciarah Fewell, Locust Grove Elementary School; Liv LaPanta, Orange Elementary School; Erin Grabeel, Gordon-Barbour Elementary School; Emma Stewart, Prospect Height Middle School; Orina Chen, Locust Grove Middle School; and, Jessica Elizabeth Pederson, Orange County High School. “Best in Show” and “People’s Choice” selections will be professionally framed and displayed at the Taylor Complex for one year.
