As you know the FSA Writing assessment was conducted the week of March 2nd and I am happy to report our computer issues were minimal. All students received information on their schedule for RTI tutorials prior to the break for our first session on March 16th. We will have a total of four sessions (March 23, March 30, and April 6) to assist in preparing our student for district and state assessments. As always, thank you fro partnering with us in educations. Tickets can be purchased online or look for the flyer that came home with your student! http://og-ptsa.ticketleap.com Page 2 Orange Grove Middle Magnet School of the Arts Science News The Tampa Bay Conservation Society came to all seventh grade classrooms on February 23rd, thanks to a PTSA grant that CALLING ALL BATTLE BOOK READERS!!!!! On Wednesday, March 18, all students in all three grade levels are invited to take the Battle of the Books Qualifying Test. Mrs. Hartley and Ms. Castorino will be administering this test in the Media Center during all three lunch periods. The students with the top six scores on the qualifying test will receive an invitation to be on the 2015 Orange Grove Battle of the Books Team. This year’s competition will be held at the Tampa Convention Center on Friday, May 22. Math Tutoring/FSA Prep Math tutoring for all sixth graders is held on Wednesday and Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in room 105 (Mrs. Washington). Be sure you’re ready for the FSA! March Reading Madness!!! This March, students are invited to participate in “March Reading Madness” at the Orange Grove Media Center. For every book a student checks out, their homeroom will receive one point, and the student will get the chance to make a basket (in a Nerf basketball hoop). For every basket made, the student will get a milk chocolate “basketball” candy. Homeroom points will be tallied on Tuesday, March 31st; the homeroom with the most points will receive a breakfast party (i.e. donuts with milk and orange juice) on April 1st. So get into your library and get reading Lions! OG is participating in the Pasta for Pennies Program! Please send in spare change with your student. Proceeds go to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society! The homeroom with the largest donation will win an Olive Garden catered Lunch! Thank you for your support! Page 3 2014-15 OG Students of the Month Jim Harbin Media Festival Hillsborough Association of School Library Media Specialists (HASLMS) is happy to announce the annual HASLMS/Jim Harbin Media Festival. Any questions may be directed to your Orange Grove Media Specialist, and local festival co-chair, Christy Hartley. You may find information for entries at www.floridamedia.org, or by contacting Mrs. Hartley. Entries are due no later than Friday, April 10th. Judging will be held on Thursday, April 16th. Notification and awards/certificates will be mailed to schools once the winners have been selected.
