ORILLIA FIGURE SKATING CLUB March Newsletter 2015 The Orillia Figure Skating Club proudly presents: “DISNEY ON ICE” Saturday, March 28th, 2015 Shows times: 2:00pm and 7:00pm We hope you are all getting excited for what will be a fantastic production by our skaters. Carnival practices for some skaters has already begun while others will begin this month. Please refer to the schedule that was handed out in February. A schedule will also be posted outside the coach’s room at Rotary Place. Dress rehearsal will take place Friday, March 27th, a schedule will be handed out sometime this month. Please respect the schedule and be on time for practices. Also, please remember to bring any accessories needed to go with your costume if required. Thank you. The OFSC will be looking for volunteers to help with the production. A sign-up board will be posted with positions that need to be filled to ensure our Carnival is a huge success. Thank you to all those who volunteer. Carnival Brochure Advertising: Please consider advertising in our carnival brochure. Information regarding advertising can be picked up in the coaches room. Dates to Remember Saturday, March 1st-Sunday, March 2nd – Make-ItA-Date-To-Skate Competition North Bay, ON Tuesday, March 3rd – Test Day Wednesday, March 18th – Last Skating Day for CanSkaters NOT participating in the Carnival Show March 28th Thursday, March 19th – NO SKATING Friday, March 27th – DRESS REHEARSAL (starting at 4:30pm, Schedule to follow) Saturday, March 28th – CARNIVAL TEST DAY Congratulations to those skaters who passed their tests last month. A big congratulations goes out to Sadie Armstrong and Kaylin Mills for passing their first tests. Our next test day is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3rd. A schedule is posted outside the Coaches room at Rotary Place. Carnival Practice Carnival practice has begun for our PreCan and CanSkaters. Beginning Monday, March 9th practice will commence for our Bronze, Silver, Gold and Competitive skaters and attendance rules will be in effect. There will NOT be any carnival practice during March break however, regular skating will take place. Please check practice times, a schedule is posted outside the coaches room. BINGO Volunteers Looking to earn extra credits? BINGO volunteers are still needed for the following dates: May 15th, June 13th, July 17th, August 22nd, September 4th, September 26th, and October 23rd. Please contact the OFSC office if you are interested in any dates. Fundraising Just a reminder Wilkie’s meat and butter tart orders are due Wednesday, March 4th. Please hand in your order forms and money prior to or on Wednesday. Thank you! This year’s tag day will take place Friday, April 17th & Saturday, April 18th. A sign-up sheet will be posted soon. Please consider volunteering for these dates as it is a great fundraiser for our club. Orillia Figure Skating AGM This year’s AGM will take place Sunday, May 3rd at 7:00pm in the Rotary Place meeting room. All are welcome. A draw for a winter skating membership will take place at our AGM. Only those present will qualify for the draw. Spring Skating Spring Skating forms have been handed out and will take place at Rotary Place this April and May. We look forward to seeing our skaters return to continue improving their skating skills and having fun. Registration will take place Monday, March 2nd from 5:30-7:00pm at Rotary Place and Wednesday, March 4th from 5:00-7:00pm at Brian Orser Arena. Skaters of the Month Congratulations to our Skaters Noah-Rose Hewitt, Adrianna Pobega and Joseph Rowe, our skaters of the month. All three skaters skate on our CanSkate and Little Stars sessions and they have been progressing quite well this season. Noah-Rose, Adrianna and Joseph are all working on their Stage 6 badge, great work Skaters! STARSkate Championships Results Congratulations to our competitive and STARSkate skaters who competed at the STARSkate Championships in Milton last month. Our skaters all had strong performances with several coming home with medals: Evan Serra – 3rd Juvenile Men Under 14 Julia Litvinenko & Ruslan Artmanov – 1st Junior Bronze Dance Pairs Hayden Murray & Zack Frakum – 2nd Junior Bronze Dance Pairs Winter Whirl Competition Results Congratulations to All Orillia Skaters who competed at the Winter Whirl Competition in Bracebridge last month.
