The Sunrun Sales Certification Program
Introducing Professional Development and Proficiency
Every professional career-track has a program for verifying levels of expertise. Lawyers, real
estate brokers, CPAs, insurance agents—they all have a program for professional development,
and for recognizing people who reach different levels of proficiency.
It’s time that we bring that level of professionalism to the solar sales industry!
You and your team are members of a network of professionals who sell clean, affordable
electricity to homeowners. Whether you meet homeowners at their front door, work with them
over the phone, or talk to them at the kitchen table, you have a unique skill set. You gain new
knowledge and improve your skills every day in this crazy business we call the “solar coaster.”
Sunrun appreciates your dedication to the profession of selling solar, and believes that you should
be recognized for it. So we’re introducing the Sunrun Sales Certification program. The program
includes multiple “tracks”—for sales consultants, lead generators, and lead qualifiers. There are
increasing levels of certification. Sales consultants will begin with the Professional certification,
and advance all the way to a Master Certification for consultants who are at the pinnacle of their
careers. Lead generators and qualifiers will start with the Rising Star certification, and then
proceed to the Shining Star certification.
The certification programs include web-based training, classroom training, and skill development.
It evaluates your success in selling solar, as well as your customers’ satisfaction with your
performance. And it includes testing so that you can prove your level of expertise and
differentiate yourself from the crowd of solar slingers out there. (And if you already know it all
you can bypass the training and just take the tests.)
Sunrun Sales Certification is the next evolution of the accreditation program that we launched in
2012. (Admittedly, not our best effort.) So even if you were accredited before, you’ll need to
enroll in and complete the new certification. Going forward, the Professional Certification
replaces the old Sales Accreditation program.
Sunrun Sales Certification will launch in mid-April. Stay tuned for more information, and look for
