programs aimed at improving care
for individuals who are medically
frail with developmental disabilities
and their families. Program
cosponsored by Daemen College,
Parent Network of Western New
York, and Center for Self Advocacy.

TARGET PARTICIPANTS: Health and human service professionals
Program Objectives
At the end of the course sequence the participant will:
1. Recognize the current dynamic nature of the health care delivery system and its impact on
individuals with developmental disabilities and their families and care givers.
2. Identify legal and ethical issues affecting individuals with developmental disabilities and their
families and caregivers.
3. Demonstrate commitment to ethical principles pertaining to provision or withholding of clinical
care, confidentiality and informed consent related to caring for individuals with developmental
disabilities and their families and caregivers.
4. Advocate for improved access to effective care for individuals with developmental disabilities and
their families and caregivers.
5. Apply principles that demonstrate leadership in improving care for individuals with developmental
disabilities and their families and caregivers.
