Inf. 373290 Jun. 372438 Penryn Primary Academy SPRING NEWSLETTER NO. 11 Friday 20th March 2015 Dear Parent/Carer, Infant Items Open Doors On Tuesday 24th March the Infant site will have open doors. Please come into the Reception and KS1 classrooms from 2.40pm onwards to look at your child’s books and displays. Easter Egg Raffle Tickets Raffle tickets will be on sale Tuesday 24th at 2.45 in the infant school hall and Wednesday 25th March at 8.40. (if It is dry we will sell tickets in the playground) Outdoor Garden A big thank you to all parents who came and helped create our outdoor garden. We have planted lots of different fruit and vegetables which we are looking forward to eating when they have grown. We also planted flowers, a sweet pea den and a sensory garden area. Our sand pit has been constructed and work has started on our mud kitchen. It was so good to have parents, children and teachers working together, followed by sweet treats for the workers! Book Fair Thank you to the parents for their time in running the book fair in the infant site Library Infant and Junior Items Penryn Primary Academy Website/Facebook Page/Twitter - PRIMARY Our new web page and Facebook page is updated daily with current news and information. Previous editions of our newsletter are also available in case you may have missed any dates, information etc. Shelterbox Many thanks for the fantastic donations received so far for our sponsored read appeal for Shelterbox. To date, we have enough funds to sponsor one box for Shelterbox, but we would love to sponsor more boxes. This week Shelterbox are sending 1000 boxes to Vanuatu so all donations would be very gratefully received. Please could all sponsor money please be in by Friday 27th March. Thank you for your support. Calling All Parents, Carers and Grandparents If you would like to volunteer some of your time to hear children read please let the junior site office know and a DBS check can be arranged to allow you to come into school. More details can be found on the school website. Easter Cake Bake and Sale We are holding an Easter Cake Bake and Sale in the infant hall on Wednesday 25 th March at 3.00pm. Please bring cakes to school on the Wednesday morning and give them to your class teacher. All year groups are invited to take part. Easter Raffles Both sites will be holding their Easter raffle on Wednesday 25 th March. All donations of eggs will be greatly appreciated. Friends of Penryn Primary More details will follow later but please make a note of some of the events Friends have planned for this year: 14.04.15 Iranian Storyteller and Musicians for Year 2 and Years 3-6 22.04.15 Friends of Penryn Primary AGM (to be held at 3.30pm on the infant site in Mrs Frost’s classroom). Everyone is invited so please do come along and bring your children. 22.04.15 As part of the AGM we will be starting to plan for the Summer Fair 04.06.15 Quiz Night (6.30-8pm) for children and grown-ups! 01.07.15 Junior Sports Day (Infant date to be arranged) 02.07.15 The Big Launch of Penryn Primary 18.07.15 Summer Fair (11am-1pm) on the infant site PTO Junior Items Author visit - JUNIOR Thanks to Friends, we have been able to invite the children's author and illustrator; Veronica Lamond to school to speak with the KS1 and 2 children. Veronica visited the KS1 pupils on Thursday of this week and is due to meet with the KS2 pupils next Tuesday 24th March. Veronica is selling her books; 'Landy', 'Fender' and 'Landy's New Home', at a reduced price of £5.00. If your child/children would like to purchase one of Veronica's books, please could you send the money to the school office in a labelled envelope. You can check out Veronica's work on her website. http://www.veronicalamond.com Junior Disco – Pyjamas The Junior Disco is this evening from 6.30 – 8.00pm. Refreshments will be available. Please ensure your children bring a completed disco slip and are collected promptly at 8pm – many thanks. Calling Years 4, 5 and 6 Today we had an assembly delivered by Tony from Elemental UK about a Summer Term club that will be running on a Friday afternoon from 16:00-18:00 at Swanpool Beach. Initially there will be five sessions: 24/4. 1/5. 8/5, 15/5 and 22/5. Each session will cost £5 and payment will be required up front. The children will get the chance to have a go at: coasteering, kayaking, bell boating, windsurfing, surfing, raft building and Stand Up Paddleboarding (all weather dependent). Children will be provided with wetsuits and appropriate safety equipment. If your child is interested in joining this club, please collect a form from Mr. Hitchens and do not hesistate to get in contact should you have any questions. Athletics Congratulations to the Year 3 and 4 children who came 2nd in the Peninsula Sports Hall Athletics Final on the 17th March. The children have now qualified for the next round of the Cornwall School Games which will be held at Truro School on the 20th April. Well done to everyone involved!!! Class Photographs The school photographer will be taking class photos at the junior site on Wednesday 25 th March. Hockey Penryn Primary played their first two hockey matches. The first match against Mawnan we won 4 - 0. Followed by a very close match against Mylor which we lost 2-1. Year 4 Camp Meeting Parents of children going on Year 4 camp are invited to a meeting in the junior hall at 5.30pm on Wednesday 25 th March. School PE kit If your child has used one of the school PE kits please could it be return as soon as possible so that other children can benefit from it.
