PIC’s Quarterly & Easter Newsletter
It has been a pleasant two months in PLCMC as the PIC. The leaders and members
have been very supportive and I have been able to transit quickly with my family into
the PL family. The transition was quick partly because this is my home church. It was
quick also because there wasn’t much time to transit as I was immediately in the thick
of things the very moment I came in.
Thank you for treating me so well. You have been very accommodating to my
monolingual abilities e.g. I pronounce the blessing in English even though it is in the
Mandarin or Hokkien service. A few members have been trying to encourage me to
learn Mandarin and Hokkien but perhaps God needs to give me the gift of tongues for
me to do that.
I would like to give thanks for the love and unity in PLCMC, that we are one big family. I
saw this in the change of Worship Service timings. To support the growth of the church,
the church went through a number of service timing adjustments. The Mandarin
service changed from 8.15am to 8.45am and the Bilingual changed from 8.30am to
8.45am. I thank God that the other congregations were very supportive of their sister
congregation so that these two services can grow as the previous timings were a bit
too early. As a result, the Hokkien service changed from 10am to 10.15am and the
Liturgical service changed from 11.30am to 11.45am as these services share the same
sanctuary. The Contemporary service remained at its current 11.15am timing as it uses
the L2 sanctuary. But is has also been affected as members seem to find it harder to
find a parking space in the surrounding vicinity. So, despite some ‘cost’ to the other
sister congregations, they still supported the initiative and made adjustments. There
seems to be a willingness to truly love like Jesus did, even if it costs. Leaders and
members no longer seem to just look out for their own interests but are willing to
sacrifice some of their own interests for the sake of others. The pastors and leaders
would like to thank all of you for your love, support and understanding.
And this is what Holy Week is all about. Just as Jesus did not put his own interests first
but put others’ interests above his, our brothers and sisters who bore the cost of the
change in service timing also demonstrated the same Christian love. And truly, we
want to rejoice over this.
So, let us gather this Holy Week to celebrate the author and finisher of our faith and
love. We have Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter services, in both Mandarin
and English. Do invite your friends as well so that they too may experience the love of
God.
May our good Father grant you a spiritually blessed week as we gather to honour His
Son, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
