Australia Week’s headline musical act, Fatai, will join students in an interactive
workshop focusing on creativity and careers in the music industry. With an online
appeal to over 50 million people and having already penned a label and
publishing deal, Fatai will share her experience and knowledge with aspiring
young PNG musicians and share in the traditional cultural music of PNG.

Launch of Tep Tok documentary
2PM, NATIONAL MUSEUM AND ART GALLERY, THEATRETTE
Australia Week is proud to present Tep Tok: Reading between our lines. This
fascinating and engaging documentary follows four women of Papua New
Guinean and Australian descent as they explore their tattooing traditions and
share the stories of young women adapting and creating a contemporary culture
to which they belong outside of their Pacific nation.

Cricket World Cup Legacy launch: Vabukori Village
VABUKORI VILLAGE
Join Australian women’s cricketer Alyssa Healy at the launch of the new Vabukori
Village cricket facility, co-funded by the PNG private sector and the Cricket World
Cup Legacy Facilities Fund. Experience the new pitch and join in a host of fun
family activities.
Market cooking class and nutrition talk
9AM, GEREHU MARKETS
Australia Week presents a live cooking class and talk at the Gerehu Markets to
promote the nutritional value of traditional vegetables. Recipe cards will be
launched at the event, and PNG and Australian agricultural scientists and World
Vision staff will prepare and cook dishes and talk about the nutritional benefits of
local vegetables. The demonstration is part of a joint PNG and Australia project
to promote the growing and eating of traditional vegetables.
Tanim Graun filming
1PM, PARADISE CINEMA, VISION CITY
Australia Week guest speaker Benson Saulo will join the Tanim Graun panel in
discussing and debating the development challenges facing PNG. Tanim Graun,
which in Tok Pisin colloquially means to ‘ turn the ground’, acts as a conduit for a
collective citizens’ voice to help shape local, regional and national policy.
Reconciliation Week film screening
5PM, CARITAS TECHNICAL SECONDARY SCHOOL
Australia Week presents a special screening of contemporary and entertaining
short films showcasing Australia’s Indigenous culture. Australia Week guest
speaker Benson Saulo will share his experiences and messages about education,
leadership, entrepreneurship, identity and reconciliation.
SATURDAY, 30 MAY
Launch of Cricket Women’s Empowerment Project
AMINI PARK
The PNG National Women’s Cricket Team and Australian women’s cricketer
Alyssa Healy will together launch the Cricket PNG Women’s Empowerment
Project. Delivered with Australia’s support, the project will encourage young girls
in Papua New Guinea to regularly play cricket and live healthy lives. Alyssa and
the PNG players will train together as the team prepares for the Pacific Games.
Australia Week community cricket match
TUBUSEREIA OVAL
The Australian High Commission cricket team will take on the Tubusereia team
on its home turf. Tubusereia is located 30 minutes from Port Moresby and has a
proud cricketing tradition. Come along to enjoy some social cricket in a family
environment.
Australia Week essay competition awards

Encouraging debate and discussion amongst PNG youth, the Australia Week
Essay competition for secondary and high school students has unpicked the
topic: ‘How can good nutrition, like traditional food, help reduce the impact of
tuberculosis?’

Live Facebook discussion

The Australian High Commission’s facebook page will be thrown open in a live
discussion with Indigenous Australian Youth Leader and Australia Week guest
speaker Benson Saulo on issues that affect youth and the role young people can
play in their communities to lead positive change.

Australia Week guest speaker, Benson Saulo, will speak to students about his
experiences as an Indigenous youth leader, Youth Ambassador to the United
Nations and the roles young people can play in their communities to lead positive
change through education, entrepreneurship and strong connections to country.

Born to a Papua New Guinean father and an Indigenous Australian mother,
Benson was raised in an environment dedicated to helping community, values he
has taken into his adult life today, founding Mind Garden Projects in PNG.
Benson will speak to students about influences in his life and the role young
people can play in their communities to lead positive change.
New Colombo Plan welcome

In the first New Colombo Plan project for PNG, a group of young Australians who
wish to experience first-hand the community life and the education system of
PNG will arrive for an experience of a lifetime in the Kokoda region.

Australia Week brings the latest in innovative, creative short films from young
Australian filmmakers to the Pacific Adventist University with a screening of the
Flickerfest short film festival.

Young Enterprise Scheme Motivational Meet

Australia Week guest speaker Benson Saulo will speak with participants in the
National Development Bank’s Young Enterprise Scheme at a motivational meet
to inspire and encourage PNG’s entrepreneurs and leaders of tomorrow.
Australia Week Golf Day

A four ball Ambrose golf competition hosted by the Australian Defence Staff will
feature Australian and PNG teams vying for great prizes and the honour of being
Australia Week champions.
Tep Tok encore screening

This special encore screening of Tep Tok at the University of Papua New Guinea
provides an opportunity for students to explore and discuss the traditional
cultural practices of tattooing in PNG through the stories of four women of PNG
