Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe that another great school year
is quickly coming to an end! I always look forward
to spring and the anticipation of longer days,
warmer temperatures and many exciting end of the
year activities. While the temptation to ease into
summer is great, we still have a lot of work to do
preparing your children for next year! Our learners
are still making lots of progress toward meeting
grade level expectations and we thank you for your
assistance in supporting your children at home,
especially during this time when “spring fever”
begins to set in. Please continue to help us finish
up strong by providing a quiet place for children to
do their work, signing homework planners, and
keeping those lines of communication open
between home and school.
In addition, we would encourage parents to begin
seeking out summer learning opportunities for
children. Athletic, theater, art and science camps as
well as programs at the public library, museums and
Colorado National Monument all help children to
expand their knowledge while having fun over the
summer!
We look forward to continued parent participation
throughout the remainder of the school year!
Please check out the calendar on our new and
improved Pomona School website for a list of all the
special activities coming up.
Fondly,
Emma-Leigh Larsen, Principal

Parents, we are still looking for volunteers to
help with this wonderful event. Please call
Rosanna at 254-4990 if you are available to
help. This is a great opportunity to see how
much our PTO does for our Pomona students.

Pomona Families,
To all our Pomona students who participated in our
Spell-A-Thon we would like to congratulate you on
a job well done and thank you for your support.
We raised $6,500 from our Spell-A-Thon and we
appreciate your help and support with this
event. We had 6 classes bring in over $500 each.
Our Grand Prize 100% winners were Ema Babnic
for the primary grades, and Nate Taylor for the
secondary grades; our highest individual earner
was Kambelle Hotard, and our highest earning
class was Ms. Gardner's morning Kindergarten
class! Way to go!
And once again, we ask you to consider joining
us on the PTO Board. We are looking for a vice
president and a secretary. These positions require
only a few hours per month. The reward for this
sacrificed time is FUN and SATISFACTION knowing
we are improving the educational experience for
over 400 wonderful students and staff. Think
about it. If you have any questions please call
Natalie Gehl at 216-6401.
Thanks,
Natalie Gehl
PTO President
Back to school for D51 food & nutrition services staff
The LiveWell@School Food Initiative works in partnership
with food service directors and their staff to serve up fresh
prepared meals that taste good and are good for students
through free culinary training, on-site chef consultation and
strategic culinary planning.
It is LiveWell Colorado’s mission to make sure every child in
Colorado eats well, lives well and stays well so that they can
better serve their communities and families.
“I love it, it’s a lot of fun. It’s all for the better, it looks better as
well as tastes better,”
Welcome Mrs. Rankin!
By
Hunter Birch, Kinley Mittan, Landon Scarbrough
and Gwen Schlapp
Add clever, creative, kind, funny, and positive,
and you have the new 5th grade teacher Mrs. Rankin!
She is one of the great new teachers at Pomona
Elementary!
Mrs. Rankin has wanted to be a teacher since
she was 12; a positive teacher inspired her to be a
teacher. Mrs. Rankin used to own a retail business, she
also worked at a law office, she used to be a graphic
artist, and these are just a few jobs! She enjoys working
with kids and teaching them new things. Before
Pomona, she taught three grades in one classroom! She
wanted to teach just one grade at a time, so she came
to Pomona Elementary.
Let’s get away from school now and take you to
Mrs. Rankin’s extra- curricular life. Mrs. Rankin was
born in Pennsylvania, and later moved to Colorado and
graduated from CMU. Mrs. Rankin adopted two
daughters from Korea. One is 27 and is married, and
one is 16 and is a junior at GJHS. If she had one wish,
(not including money or more wishes), Mrs. Rankin
would wish for world peace. She has traveled to a lot of
places like Canada, China, Scotland, Ireland, and these
are just a few.
Pomona is delighted to have this marvelous new
teacher!
—Janice White, Full time manager at Rim Rock
“Now it’s all fresh, we even make our own salad dressings.
These meals prepare them better for the classroom, they are
able to concentrate better,”
— Ann Marie Ahern, District 51 Nutrition Services
