Neighborhood Watch (NW) - Participant Expectations
1. Join Next Door and sign up for alerts from the Crime and Safety category
2. Meet and know who your Block Captain is
3. Make an effort to learn participating neighbors’ names and be able to recognize them and their vehicles.
4. Keep updated contact information for the neighbors you share information with on your street
5. Watch your neighbors’ homes when they are away. Ask them to return the favor. This includes picking up mail/newspapers, and putting back garbage cans if
left out. Do not leave signals that say, “no one is home.”
6. Be alert to unusual or suspicious behavior in your neighborhood, and post an alert to Next Door when appropriate. Call the police department if it is an
emergency.
7. Communicate general block concerns (or areas that need to be addressed) to the Block Captain.
8. When possible, attend PHNA Community Activities designed to strengthen our Neighborhood Watch, such as Neighborhood Meetings, Socials, and
Beautification Projects
9. Do not take any risks to prevent a crime or try to make an arrest. Remember, your job is to report crime. Apprehending criminals is the responsibility of the
professionals at the Police Department.
10. Above all, become involved and communicate with others. It is the most effective way to reduce/prevent crime and make your neighborhood safe.
