Shower Filter
The Sprite shower filter uses the filter media
Chlorgon, the only non-carbon filter media to
remove total chlorine, for enhanced chlorine
removal protection, in addition to removing
hydrogen sulphide (rotten egg smell), dirt, sediment
and odours. The high output filter cartridge is a
reversible one year cartridge. It can be easily
changed and operated in either direction. Periodic
reversing of the cartridge ensures balanced filtration
and also back flushes the cartridge.

Cartridges & Membranes
Sediment Cartridges – Pleated/Washable
Pleated washable cartridges are described as a
‘surface filter’ which means that once the outside
surface of the fabric is soiled it needs to be
washed. Can be washed and re-used up to 3-4
times before replacement (subject to volume and
type of sediment).
An excellent pre-filter for removing large solids and
organic matter in dam, tank and bore water. The
cartridge has a large surface area to maximise its
efficiency, resulting in fewer change outs and is
ideal for low pressure situations. Available in
standard and” BB widths, with 10” and 20” lengths
to fit existing IBC Water housings and compatible
with most other brand housings.
Suitable for domestic, tank water, irrigation, light
industrial, swimming pool and spa applications.
The 60 micron washable net filter provides
excellent solids extraction and high flow rates,
coupled with long life. Can be fitted as the first
stage of a multi stage water purifier for home use.
Can also be used in the photographic,
pharmaceutical
and
electronics
industries.
Depending on application, it can be re-washed
many times with minimal loss of efficiency.

Ozone Generators
Ozone Generators for Water & Air
What is Ozone?
Ozone is a natural sanitiser derived directly from the air we breathe with no additives.
It is produced by passing oxygen through a high intensity electrical field. In this way
the oxygen gas is changed to ozone gas, a short-lived powerful oxidiser.
Once generated, ozone must be used immediately as it breaks down rapidly to oxygen, leaving no chemical residue
from the ozone. Ozone is very powerful and effective being many times stronger than chlorine. With no chemical
additives, it does not have to be stored; you generate it on site as it is needed.
Industries where ozone is currently being applied are:
ƒ
ƒ
ƒ
ƒ
Residential and leisure
Hospitality
Food processing and storage
Beverage – bottled water, soft drink, beer & wine
ƒ
ƒ
ƒ
ƒ
Farming applications

What can ozone treat?
Water:
ƒ
Removal of organic and inorganic matter
ƒ
Odour and taste elimination
ƒ

Product – Ozone Ultraviolet Systems (UV)
Ozone Industries’ family of UV ozone systems are the finest grade of UV ozone generators on the market. The only
components requiring replacement from time to time are the fan and the lamp. The lamp is rated at 6000 hours. The
cabinet is made from long lasting and easily cleaned stainless steel. This unit is built to a commercial standard.
Which model do I need?
The single lamp Model 3110 when operated for 30 to 60 minutes is adequate for most apartments or single rooms.
For a larger area, running overnight, the dual lamp Model 3610 or 3210 units are the recommended models.
Depending on the application, an Ozone Industries ozone generator may be interlocked with an ozone gas
monitor/controller to effectively manage the levels of ozone in the air.

Membranes – Sea & Brackish Water
Membranes
We offer a range of Dow Filmtec and GE
membranes.
In residential applications, reverse osmosis (RO)
membranes are used to purify varying qualities of
water. In a common application, the appropriate
RO membrane element is housed inside a pressure
vessel that accepts inflowing, pressurised feed
water. Crossflow filtration across the membrane
then divides the flow into two outflow streams: the
purified permeate stream and the concentrate or
reject stream.
Unlike conventional filtration which can be
maintenance-intensive, costly, and environmentally
unfriendly,
membrane-separation
technology
employs crossflow filtration where captured
impurities on the membrane are constantly swept
away by the concentrate stream.
Thus the
membrane surface is continuously cleaned,
prolonging the life of the membrane and reducing
maintenance costs. (Source: GE Water & Process Technologies)

Deionised Water
Demineralised water is another name for DI (deionised) water. It is water from which the minerals (ions)
have been removed. It is a type of purified water.
IBC Water’s demineralised water is produced on-site at our Mansfield facilities via a deionisation process
(DI).
We sell DI water in bottles and in larger containers. In addition, we have a DI rental exchange system for
customers who have larger, continuous, on-site requirements.

Explanation of Water Quality Testing Terminology
pH
The letters pH stand for ‘p’ potenz or power, and ‘H’ the symbol for hydrogen. So the pH of a solution describes
its hydrogen-ion activity. The pH scale ranges between 0 and 14. Water with a pH of 7 is neutral; less than 7 is
acidic, and greater than 7 is alkaline. Dissolved gases such as carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulphide and
ammonia strongly influence the pH of a solution. The pH of drinking water, in itself, seems to have no effect on
health. On the other hand, corrosion is associated with pH levels less than 6.5. Corrosion releases metals such
as lead, zinc, copper and cadmium from pipes and fittings, and these substances can be toxic. If the water
has a pH of less than 4, the water may have a sour taste. If greater than 8.5, an unpleasant taste may be
present as well as scale which forms on pipes and equipment, and the germicidal qualities of chlorine will be
reduced. pH is usually measured with a meter that has a probe which is placed in the solution. Allow some
minutes for an accurate reading to be given.
TDS
TDS is short for Total Dissolved Solids (or Salts). This term denotes the concentration of mineral constituents
dissolved in water. It does not include gases, colloids or sediment but consists chiefly of carbonates,
bicarbonates, chlorides, sulphates, phosphates and nitrates of calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium
with traces of iron, manganese and a few others. Many Australian waters have characteristically high levels of
dissolved solids, the most common of which are sodium bicarbonate and chloride, and calcium and
magnesium bicarbonates and sulphates. Taste thresholds vary depending on the particular dissolved solid
present. Supplies of water above a TDS of 1500 mg/litre are generally considered unacceptable for
consumption without treatment. Sea water has a TDS of around 34,000.
Conductivity
Conductivity is related to TDS in that conductivity is the ability of a substance (a dissolved solid) to conduct an
electric current. It is reported in units of Siemens (S), but since natural waters have conductivity values of far
less than 1 siemen (S), the data is generally reported in microsiemens or millionths of a siemen (uS/cm). As a
general rule, the conductivity is multiplied by 0.7 in order to estimate the dissolved solids. A TDS and/or
conductivity meter with a probe is generally used. Reverse osmosis or distillation is the generally accepted
method to lower TDS.
Hardness
Hard water and soft water are terms that have no exact meaning because water considered hard in one area
might be considered soft in another. Hardness is usually associated with what happens when soap is used.
Soap does not clean as efficiently in hard water. It leaves insoluble residues in bathtubs, sinks, and clothing. In
addition, hard water causes scale to build up in water heaters, boilers and pipes thereby reducing their
capacity and heat transfer properties. Hardness is commonly reported in milligrams per litre (mg/l) although
other terms can be used. For the most part, hardness depends on the concentration of calcium and
magnesium.
A general scale of hardness is shown right:

Water Testing
Explanation of Water Quality Testing Terminology (cont’d)
Turbidity
Turbidity in liquids is caused by the presence of undissolved but finely dispersed matter such as clay, silt,
plankton, algae and other microscopic organisms. It can be said to be a lack of brilliance in water and should
not be confused with colour which can result from tannins, lignins, humus and peat materials leached from the
soil. Clarity of water is important for human consumption and most manufacturing uses. Small hand held
turbidity meters are available that pass light, whether visible or infrared, through a sample of water to test for
clarity.
Manganese
Manganese bearing minerals are common in rocks and soils. Manganese may exist in large concentrations in
organic material, since it is a plant nutrient. It does not appear to have toxological significance in drinking
water, at least in concentrations typical of natural waters. The recommended limit for manganese in drinking
water, 0.1 mg/l, is based largely on aesthetic and taste considerations. Upon oxidation (mixing with oxygen),
manganese in excess of 0.2 mg/l tends to precipitate and form noxious deposits on foods during cooking, and
black stains on plumbing fixtures and laundry. Concentrations greater than 0.5 mg/l may impart a metallic
taste to both foods and water. Treatment generally recommended is either a water softener or a manganese
greensand or DMI-65 filter. The generally used method of testing for manganese is either a meter using the
photometric method, or a reagent kit which requires the mixing of various chemicals to provide a reading.
Iron
Iron is one of the most common elements in the soil and waters of the world. In ground water, iron usually
occurs in the ferrous state, but it may quickly and easily oxidise to the ferric state. Ferrous iron even in large
quantities in water will be colourless, but when exposed to the atmosphere will become ferric and will be
visible as a reddish brown colour. Iron is always measured in milligrams per litre (mg/l). As little as 0.1 mg/l is
sufficient to cause disagreeable staining in laundry, plumbing fixtures, etc. Treatment generally recommended
is either a birm filter, manganese greensand filter or DMI-65 filter. Iron can be tested with a meter, reagent kit
or snap-off ampoules that suck up sample water through a vacuum process and mix the water with chemicals
to give a colour reading.
Nitrate
Nitrate in water supplies owes its origin to several possible sources, including the atmosphere, legume plants,
plant debris, animal excrement and sewage, as well as nitrogenous fertilisers and some industrial wastes.
Nitrate concentrations in water are reported as either nitrate (NO3) or nitrate-nitrogen (as N). Most analysis will
use the latter. Nitrate (as N) in concentrations greater than 10 mg/l has been known to cause infant
methemoglobinemia, a condition characterised by cyanosis, a bluish colouration of the skin. A similar problem
will be seen in livestock with abnormally high mortality rates in baby pigs and calves, and abortion in brood
animals.
Taste & Odour
Disagreeable odours are caused by a variety of materials, particularly living micro-organisms, decaying
organic matter, sewage, and some industrial wastes. Probably the most common odours are the rotten-egg
gas smell of hydrogen sulphide, the gasoline smell in supplies polluted by certain hydrocarbons, and the
pungent smell of chlorine. A bitter taste may be due to the presence of iron, manganese, large amounts of
sulphate, or excess lime. Waters containing a large amount of sodium bicarbonate are often described as
faintly inky or sometimes soapy. Water containing an unusual quantity of salt will have a brackish taste. An
activated carbon filter is the most practical remedy for removal of most taste and odour problems. However
on non-chlorinated supplies, a carbon filter will be biologically fouled by bacteria and will have a limited life
span. A combination of disinfection (chlorine, UV, or ozone) and carbon would be recommended.
