Studying in Canada
Each year Canada welcomes over 100,000 students
from around the world. We offer some of the
highest ranked education as well as the lowest cost
of living and tuition rates in any English speaking
country. Many Canadian colleges and universities
offer internationally recognized credits, degrees,
and diplomas.
CANADA IS KNOWN AROUND THE WORLD for being
one of the most welcoming countries. Nearly 60%
of Canada’s population growth is made up of new
Canadians who have immigrated here to live.
Year after year, Canada is proud to have been
named by the United Nations as one of the best
places to live in the world. This may be due to our
first rate education system, the diversity of our
population, our affordable cost of living, and our
health care. In addition, Canada is ranked one of
the safest countries in the world.

NOTES
Working During Your Studies
The Canadian government supports the idea of international students
working part time to offset many of the costs associated with studying
in Canada—e.g., tuition fees, accommodation, food, entertainment,
etc.
Therefore, after 6 months of full time post secondary studies, students
are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week off campus and 40 hours per
week during vacation breaks.
Contact the St. Clair College International Office after 6 months of study
for assistance in completing your work-study permit application.
For additional information about
student work permits, please visit:
www.cic.gc.ca/english/
information/applications/workstudents.asp
Working After Graduation
Upon completion of your post secondary studies, a post-graduate open
work permit is available to graduates. This permit is valid for 1 - 3 years
based on a student’s program of study.
Please visit www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work.asp
for official information about student work permits, eligibility, and
application process.
Immigration to Canada
For general information about
working in Canada, and finding jobs
in Chatham-Kent, Ontario, please

The Canadian government understands that after graduating from college
and working full time that many international students may wish to stay in
Canada and pursue a path towards becoming a Canadian citizen.
After 12-months post-graduation skilled work experience, international
students with temporary residency may apply for permanent residency
through the new Canada Experience Class Policy.
Please visit www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/cec/
