The material is corrosion-proof in the presence of condensate and the duplex vessel provides additional protection against corrosion in installations with less than optimal boiler water conditions; including high dissolved oxygen and inadequate makeup water treatment. Vent Connection Condensate Drain TAdvantages of the M3 Medium Mass Design Less critical and lower minimum flow rate compared to low-volume instantaneous boilers. This allows better integration of M3 boilers into building heat loops with VFD pumping systems where the aim is to reduce building flow to minimal levels whenever possible. With instantaneous water tube boilers, there is often incompatability between the flow rate requirements of the boilers and the building. This forces a more expensive primary-secondary piping approach in almost all applications and can limit load sharing among several boilers at low fire. Built-in buffer tank means fewer boiler cycles. The tank helps smooth out boiler system operation during times of low heat demand by providing the loop water volume needed to prevent short cycling. With instantaneous boilers, additional buffer tanks are often added to the boiler loop because the lack of system water volume often undermines high turndown ratios. A superior heat exchanger and medium-mass design combined with a reliable turndown ratio provide remarkably high efficiency in all boiler system types. The extremely low minimal flow requirements and the turndown capability of the M3 boilers complement the turndown capability of the VFD, helping to maximizing the overall efficiency of these variable flow pumping systems. For multiple boiler installations with building automation communication over network connection, we recommend the Riverside Hydronics OnTrac® multiple boiler controller with Modbus TCP/IP protocol via an Ethernet port. This PID controller has a full-color, touch-screen programmable user interface. It is capable of providing operating history and real-time reporting of boiler operation including firing rate percentage and alarm status. OnTrac communicates with each boiler’s TempTrac control through a serial connection using Modbus RTU. A simple, 2-wire daisy chain connects all boilers. Customized gateways are available for Bacnet and Lonworks. SUPPLY RETURN VENTING FLEXIBILITY M3 boilers vent under positive pressure through up to 150 equivalent feet. Concurrently, the boilers can accept direct combustion air through up to 150 equivalent feet of vent. Vents can be directed through the wall or through the roof. Room combustion air is also acceptable. Vents can terminate in different pressure zones. PRIMARY-SECONDARY PIPING For heat pump loops where the building loop is often high mass and high flow, M3 boilers can be piped primary-secondary with individual pumps on each boiler. Low pressure drop through the medium-mass design reduces pump horsepower and electrical consumption. NO FLOW CONDITIONS Some boiler systems are designed with occassional no-flow conditions. Although a minimum flow is recommended, M3 boilers can be adapted for a no-flow boiler loop designs.
