Our Parish Mission Statement - Pro
07 JUNE 2015
Body & Blood
of Christ
The people in the first reading wanted to obey the Lord. Moses sealed this with the covenant of blood between the Lord and his people.
In the second reading, we hear that the blood of Christ obtained eternal redemption for human-kind. Jesus reminds us of this in the
Gospel as he celebrates the Passover with his disciples. Jesus was obedient to the Father, and suffered death on the cross. But before
he did this, Jesus established and sealed the New Covenant. The Lord shed his blood for us so that we could have hope of eternal
redemption. During the Last Supper, Christ spoke of the blood of the covenant. We are reminded of this covenant every time we gather to
celebrate the Liturgy of the Eucharist
Our Parish Mission Statement
We, the members of the Pro-Cathedral
of the Assumption community, believe that we have
been called through Baptism to live the Good News of
Jesus Christ under the patronage of Mary, our Mother.
We accomplish this by proclaiming the Word,
celebrating the Sacraments,
and reaching out to others.

Our faith community dates back to 1886 when we were
originally located on Main Street West and called St. Mary’s
of the Lake and the cornerstone of the existing Cathedral was
laid in 1904. The history of our parish is recorded in the
memories of thousands of people who built our community.

7:00 PM. Those who wish to register
for this meeting to have their child baptized are
asked to call the parish office by Monday,

Holiness is the First Vocation
Holiness Means Trying to be Like Jesus
How is God Calling You?
Marriage:
Most people are called to marriage—to
wholeheartedly love their spouse and to joyfully welcome
children. The purpose of marriage is for a man and woman
to help each other get to heaven and to teach their children
to do the same. Like any vocation, marriage must be
discerned, not assumed.
Religious Life: Both men and women can join
religious orders. The life and work of religious orders
varies greatly—from communities that dedicate themselves
to lives of prayer, to those who work actively in schools,
hospitals, orphanages, etc. The “glue” that holds together
religious life are the vows of poverty, chastity, and
obedience.
Priesthood: A priest’s job is to
bring Jesus to people and people to
Jesus—primarily through preaching the Gospel and administering
the sacraments.
Priests are
ordained for this ministry by a
bishop, who himself was ordained
by a bishop, on and on for two
thousand years.
We call this
unbroken
tradition
“apostolic
succession.”
Single Life: Some people are called to serve God as
single people, without marrying or taking special vows, but
nonetheless serving the Church in a meaningful way.
Single people “contribute greatly to the good of the human
family” (CCC 2231). “Some live their situation in the spirit
of the Beatitudes, serving God and neighbour in exemplary
fashion.” (CCC1658).

A Prayer for First Communion
As you receive Holy Communion,
May you commit your heart anew
To God who loves you dearly
And wants the best for you.
And with God’s gentle guidance
To help you find your way,
May you always live for Him
And remember this special day.
That immigrants and refugees may find welcome and
respect in the countries to which they come.
FOR EVANGELIZATION: VOCATIONS
That the personal encounter with Jesus may arouse in many
young people the desire to offer their own lives
in priesthood or consecrated life.

THE LITURGY OF THE
WORD FOR CHILDREN
The Liturgy of the Word
has ended for this year. We
will begin again September
20 at our 9:00 AM Liturgy.
Thank you to the many parents for supporting
this process by making Liturgy of the Word part of
the faith journey of your child.
There are many adults in our parish who have
taken this ministry and been faithful to the call to
spread the Good News.
I would like to thank these people: Suzanne
Lukasik, Jennifer Rachmann, Jennifer Bethiaume,
Rob Dufort, Annette Dutrisac, Georgie MacIntyre,
Carmelina McParland, Kim Morrissette, Anna
Morrow, Louise Newman, Dan Seguin, Mary Lou
Smith and Erin Tayler. A special thank you as well
to Antoinette McParland who provided the music
for each liturgy. And thank you to John and
Matthew McParland who were the cantors who
encouraged all to respond in song.
Thanks so much to all of you for taking the time
to prepare each liturgy and reflect with those
present. God bless each of you.
Darlene Truchon, Coordinator
Wonderful Indigenous Celebrations!
Thank you for your concern
with care and working with
love in League with others.
“O God, empower us!”
PRAYER LINE: Do you have prayer
requests you would like others to pray
for? These requests may be anonymous
or in detail.
If so, please call
Sister Shirley McNamara at 474-3800,
Ext. 295 or Lorraine Atchison at
474-0613 and they will gladly pass them on to others
who are waiting to receive your requests. If you
wish to join a prayer line to pray for intentions, call
the above contacts as well. Thank you.
On behalf of the Diocese of Sault St. Marie and the
ARISE/DEBOUT coordinator, please accept our
heartfelt thanks for all those who contributed in their
own way to the success of the Indigenous
Celebrations in Sudbury, North Bay and Sault
St. Marie.
Each celebration was unique to its region. This would
not have happened without the vision of Bishop
Plouffe and the generosity of the Elders who sat on
the Planning Committees of each
region. The Holy Spirit was at work
in our Diocese on these three
occasions.
For those who may have missed the
events, be aware that the intention is
to make this an annual celebration.
Please check the Diocesan website to view pictures
from the celebrations:
