Prospect’s New Gaga Pit!!!!
Most of you have likely heard the buzz around school surrounding our new Gaga Pit! The kids are truly
enjoying this wonderful new addition to the playground, which would not have been possible without the
research and funding request efforts of 5th Graders Cece Lynch and Ella Beargie, their fabulous moms,
Jackie Lynch and Elizabeth Beargie and our terrific PE teachers, Krissy Smiley and Laura Duffy. Cece
and Ella researched the project and submitted a KIDS Grant request to the D181 Foundation and were
granted $150 toward the purchase of the Gaga Pit for Prospect School. The Gaga Pit was installed by
parent, kid and grandparent volunteers on Saturday, May 9th, with Cece and Ella rolling up their sleeves
and working hard alongside the guys with the power tools all afternoon. The smooth installation would
not have been as such without the tireless efforts of Jackie Lynch in orchestrating the logistics of the
project.
THANK YOU to everyone who contributed in making this effort a reality for the kids of Prospect – what a
“Gaga-great” addition to our wonderful grounds:
Masterminds – Cece Lynch, Ella Beargie, Krissy Smiley and Laura Duffy
Master Organizers – Jackie Lynch & Elizabeth Beargie
Master Builders – Joe, Nick, Cece, Charlie & Will Lynch, Ella Beargie, Emmett & Evan Drew,
Tony Cutinelli, John & Connor Bonino and grandpa Dick Erhardt
We want to thank 5th grade students CeCe Lynch and Ella Beargie for writing a KIDS Grant to partially fund our
new pit. The PTO generously donated the rest and organized a great group of parents to build it for the students.
We are excited that the students are outside playing in the pit after school and on weekends. Please read the
attached rules. Our expectation is that all children that are using the GaGa pit are following Prospect Rules. The pit
is not to be used before school.

Student Leadership Team
The Student Leadership Team wound up the school year the way it started—with a fun and inspirational visit from
Hinsdale Central’s J. Kyle Braid Leadership group. The JKB Kids are exemplary students who have been chosen to be
leaders in their school, and they are terrific role models for our students. The students rotated through five different
leadership games, each facilitated by one of the JKB Kids and focusing on good sportsmanship, cooperation, having a
positive attitude, and kindness. We also asked the JKB Kids to give our students some advice for the future. Our
students heard some great messages such as always be positive and enthusiastic, try to make friends with people who
are different from you, always be respectful of adults, and do one nice thing for another person each day.
We had lots of great nominations for Student of the Month. In 3rd Grade, Michael Prieto was nominated by Chloe
Anderson because she saw him cheering up another friend who was sad. Macey Miller was nominated by Alison
Reinhardt because she showed good sportsmanship during recess. In 4th Grade, Kaitlyn Jin was nominated by Quincy
Sullivan for being extra nice to him while he’s had a boot on. Ellie Ursillo was nominated by Aubrie Benjamin because
she is always the first to raise her hand if their teacher needs help. Ethan Ho was nominated by Kailash Gupta-Verma
because Ethan cheered him up with a couple of jokes when he was feeling down. In 5th Grade, Brooke Bauer was
nominated by Kyle Wong because she let second graders go ahead of her in the gaga pit. Matthew Kreischer was
nominated by Jimmy Pisani for sharing his science material. Great job leaders!
At the end of the meeting, the students were given a special Outstanding Academic Excellence certificate from
President Obama. These certificates are only given to students who have demonstrated outstanding behavior, and our
student leaders certainly have done that! We know our 5th Graders will bring their tremendous leadership skills to
CHMS. We look forward to seeing the rest of the students next year!

Art Supply Drive – THANK YOU!
Thank you to all the Prospect students, families and friends who donated art materials to our art
supply drive this month! We were overwhelmed by the tremendous turn out!
From feathers to glitter to crayons to paint, our Prospect family donated so many wonderful items. We
are very excited to bring the items to our sister school, William Penn Elementary, at the end of the
month. We know they will be thrilled and so thankful for all of the art supplies!
We would also like to extend a special thank you to Mrs. Kryger, Mrs. Tiemstra and Mrs. Grant & the
EcoPanthers for their support of the drive!
A HUGE THANK YOU FROM THE MRC!
We wish to thank all of the parents who volunteered in the MRC this year. Without the help
of our volunteers checking in and out books and shelving, the MRC would not be able to
run smoothly. We hope to see many of you back next year. We would like to recognize the
parents of 5th graders who will no longer have students at Prospect:
Marcy Biala, Nicole Biegel, Cyndi Breslow, Marianne Callan, Peggy Furlong, Diane
Hughes, Gwen Kirby, Lisa Koranda, Ellen McManus, Sonia Mininni-Fendon, Amy
Sutton, and Mindy Walch. These ladies are our seasoned veterans and we are sad to see
them go!
We also would like to extend a huge thank you to Pamona Namkung, our volunteer coordinator. For the past
two years she has scheduled and rescheduled everyone to come in and help out. We could not have functioned
without her and appreciate everything she has done. Next year, Karen White will be the MRC Coordinator. We
want to thank her for stepping up and taking on this challenge.
Have a great summer and we hope to see you back in the MRC next year!
Becky Swanson and Susan Reinhardt
Dear PTO,
We would be remiss if we ended the year without a final thank you for the opportunities the third graders have
had this year with the 1:1 iPads. The students' learning has been enhanced throughout the year! Our Brookfield
Zoo field trip this year was the best we've ever experienced. To culminate our People and Animals unit in Science
and our Reading Fundamentals Science in Literature unit, the students completed an iPad scavenger hunt
identifying animal survival adaptations. They were able to capture images of animals directly into their iPads and
share this information with their peers. The level of engagement was truly at a high, and we could not be more
enthused.

To 4th grade parents,
Hey Mom and Dad, can I join band? Sound familiar? If so, there are two opportunities to register your children for 5th grade band. On Tuesday, May 26th at 7:00 pm, there is an informational meeting for parents
(from all 7 elementary schools) in the CHMS band room. After a brief
presentation, registration will take place and Quinlan & Fabish will be available to
make instrument rental arrangements for your convenience. If this is your first
child in the band program, we strongly encourage you to attend. Another option is
to stop by the open house held in the HMS Band room on Thursday, May 28th any
time between 3-8 pm to register and make rental arrangements
To district-wide parents having a student in the band program in the past: There is no need for you to attend the Tuesday, May 26th parent information
meeting. You can register for band in one of two ways:
1) Attend the open house at HMS on Thursday, May 28th from 3-8 pm in the
Band Room, OR 2) Go to our band website at: http://tinyurl.com/n5azllc
or snap on the QR code. Click on 4th grade parents,
download the registration form and the rehearsal
permission slip and return them to the CHMS office no
later than Wednesday, June 3rd. You can also scan or take
a picture of the completed forms and email them to:
[email protected]
3) Make instrument rental arrangements with Quinlan & Fabish or procure an
instrument, accessories & music on your own. Please stay with our recommended
brands mailed to you in a separate letter or find them on our website.
4) If you choose the on-line option, please send an e-mail to: [email protected]
so we know your registration is coming and will assign your student to a fall lesson
group.

Ga Ga Rules
There is a maximum of 8 players in the Ga Ga arena.
Play starts with all of the players touching the side of the playing structure. One person
starts in the middle and drops/bounces the ball twice. Each time the ball bounces the
person in the middle says “GA”. After the second bounce play begins.
Players use an open hand or fist to strike the ball, Players may not carry or throw the
ball.
Exiting the game- When the ball hits a player on or below the knee that player is then
out and must exit the Ga Ga arena. The ball may bounce off the wall, another player, or
they may even accidently hit themselves with the ball below the knee and they are out.
A player is only allowed 1 hit. However, a child may stop the ball, and then hit it. Once
the player hits the ball, he/she must wait until the ball is hit by someone else or hits the
side wall before hitting it again. (No double touches)
The ball will go out of the playing area. If a ball is hit and does NOT touch anyone, the
person who hit it is out. If the ball touches someone below the knee and goes out only
the person that was hit goes out. If a person is hit above the waist and the ball goes out
no one is out. Play starts again with the center drop.
You cannot hide the foot to knee area by kneeling down to avoid elimination. You must
stay on your feet at all times.
If there is a disagreement/arguing/poor sportsmanship in the Ga Ga arena then all 8
players are out. Players waiting in line for Ga Ga are not referees and must not help in
making decisions in the arena.
If there are two or three people left in the pit and the game is continuing on with others
waiting to get a turn, students waiting may start counting to 10. At the end of the count a
tie occurs and the game is over.
