Construction Estimating Contact the RDCA office or email at [email protected] The Estimating course is designed to learn how to develop and submit a construction bid. This is accomplished through a series of real world, hands-on exercises to understand the key issues at each stage of the estimating and bid process. Topics include: Reviewing the project life cycle and alternative methods of contracting for construction projects Defining the role of estimation throughout the project life cycle Understanding “preliminary estimating methods” (ie. estimating techniques used during project planning and prior to tendering Reviewing the UniFormat and MasterFormat standards for organizing information about construction projects Detailing the relationship between procurement law and processes and detailed estimating Understanding how estimators use construction cost estimating to develop a bid price Describing and applying the processes used to develop detailed cost estimates, including quantity takeoff, costing and mark-up. Discussing the processes used to finalize and submit a bid. This course addresses the needs of both the General Contractors and Sub Contractors to have effective processes to develop reliable cost estimates and prices. Students will work with actual bid documents including drawings and specifications to learn core estimating principles and processes. The final exam will consist of a take home project to prepare and submit a bid. Estimating is a complex and detailed aspect of construction management. This 3 day course will ensure that students understand the key concepts and methods used to price proposals. We recommend students be familiar with reading construction drawings and have a general understanding of construction project tendering and contracting practices. This course counts for 5 Gold Seals towards your designation. His experience covers all aspects of construction management including ; design, development, estimation, project planning, tendering and procurement with additional expertise in civil, structural, electrical and mechanical disciplines. Throughout his career, Gerald has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to professional development and has successfully achieved certification in many areas, notably: Project Management Professional (PMP), Master of Project planning and Construction Law and is presently working towards his Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEEDS) certification. Gerald brings an in-depth knowledge of the industry met with real world experience to his role as instructor for the Canadian Construction Institute.
