Post: Study Supervisor
Grade: SCC Grade 6 £16,215 - £21,734 [pro rata £11,200 -£15,013]
Hours: 30 hours weekly/term time [39 weeks] / 8.20 am – 2.50 pm Mon - Fri [3.50pm finish
one day a week / day to be agreed]
Responsible to: Headteacher or his designated officer under the day to day management
of an Extended Leadership team member
Purpose of the post:
The main purpose of this post is to be a member of a collaborative team of dedicated
Study Supervisors who supervise classes assigned to teachers who at the time may be in
meetings, leading or participating in professional development, absent through illness or
other circumstances. The post holder will liaise closely with the designated Leadership
Team [LT] members, Curriculum Leaders and teaching staff across the school.
Key Accountabilities:
As part of the Curriculum Support Team

Work collaboratively with the school’s Study Supervisors to provide an effective
and efficient service for student and staff in the absence of assigned teachers

Work with student and staff supervising classes / tutor groups undertaking work set
by teachers, ensuring a calm and productive learning environment

Ensure the students complete work set to the best possible standard and that the
work is collected in at the end of the lesson and distributed to the teacher
concerned

Keep an accurate record of work, as required

Contribute constructively to the development of enhanced working practices and
maintenance of high standards of professional practice

Participate in training [school based, local and regional] and developments in
relation to the role and wider school developments

Follow the school’s behaviour & reward management policy and begin and end the
lesson accordingly

Complete class and tutor group registers accurately in line with school procedures

Invigilate exams, as required arrange classroom and school displays or other
required activities in support of teaching staff.
Key Tasks
 Supervise the classes or tutor groups of staff who are absent
 Explain clearly to students the work set by the teacher and to help students with
organisation of resources and their learning
 Ensure the Behaviour Management Policy, Code of Conduct and practices are
followed including rewards and sanctions
 Ensure there is a prompt and orderly start to the lesson and students are dismissed
according to the school policy
 Assist students in the organisation of their work and to ensure that resources and
equipment are accessible for the learners
 Maintain the appropriate learning conditions for the completion of the work as
required by the class teacher
 Collect in work at the end of the lesson and distribute it as required by the teacher

Liaise closely with the Curriculum Leaders, Leadership Team members and Finance
and Business Support Staff who assign classes
Prepare and construct learning and school-wide displays in classrooms, corridors
and other areas of the school, as required
Maintain stock levels and store securely display materials and equipment
Provide support in classrooms with a teacher / support staff member or other
activities around the school such as supervision of students’ in ‘Internal Suspension’
Ensure that school display and classroom displays are tidy and up to date
Support for the school
 Comply and assist with the development of policies and procedures relating to
safeguarding young people [child protection], health and safety, confidentiality and
data protection reporting concerns to the appropriate person
 Be aware of and support difference and ensure all students have equal access to
opportunities to learn and develop by working to remove potential barriers to their
learning and social, emotional and behavioural progress
 Constructively contribute to the aims, ethos and development of the school
 Establish effective relationships and communication with staff across the school; in
particular, members of the teaching staff and Student Support Services Team
 Recognise own strengths and areas of expertise and use these to advise and
support others including teaching staff
 Supervise students, at a designated area, leaving the site at the end of timetabled
day to ensure a calm and orderly dismissal and student movements at other times,
as requested
 Participate in meetings and training in relation to school developments and
improvements
 Clerical and administrative activities at times when no cover, supervision,
invigilation or display as required
 Other duties across the school as may be reasonably assigned by the
Headteacher, designated officer, commensurate with the grade
The post holder is expected to support the college’s aims, familiarise his/herself
with college policies and procedures and to reinforce these with students, staff and
parents, where required, and to work within the confidentiality requirements of the
post.
All staff are expected to take a full part in the college’s performance management
cycle
