Position Summary:
The Chair presides over appeal hearings heard by the Residence Conduct Board (RCB), a body that
addresses appeals of violations of the Residence Rules and Regulations. During hearings, the Chair is
expected to lead the proceedings and maintain an impartial and non-judgmental attitude. The
appointee works on behalf of the Residence Society (ResSoc) and Residence Life to ensure the effective
operation of the Student Conduct Process. Each Chair should expect to work approximately 4-6 hours biweekly.
Expectations:
Assist and participate in the mandatory Residence Conduct Board training program
Maintain confidentiality at all times and ensure all individuals within the student conduct
process are treated with respect
Develop a positive working relationship with fellow staff and volunteer members
Facilitate and mediate hearings of the Residence Conduct Board and ensure that standard
procedures are followed
Meet regularly with the Residence Student Conduct Office to review and address Residence Conduct
Board matters
Prepare and forward conduct related correspondence and Residence Conduct Board decisions
to the Respondents and the Residence Student Conduct Office
Non-traditional hours of work, including some evenings and weekends
Eligibility:
a) Must be enrolled at Queen’s University as a full-time student in Good Standing within their
Faculty, for the 2015-2016academic year
b) Must be legally entitled to work in Canada or possess a valid student visa
Skills and Experience Sought:
Logical decision making
Leadership experience in a student group/organization
Knowledge of the Queen’s student conduct system an asset
Strong interpersonal and excellent oral and written communication skills
Proven ability to work collaboratively on a team and independently, as required
Ability to work in a confidential setting
Excellent time management skills and an ability to work within tight deadlines
Experience living in a residential setting an asset
Compensation:
RCB Chairs are compensated in the amount of $500 per term which is paid in two installments (January
and April).
