May 11, 2015 Volume 5, Issue 28 Weekly Sun Dates to remember: From the Principal’s Desk: May 11-May 27 MAP testing in K, 1 and 2 May 15 ITP capstone event, grades 7-8 Spring Musical Mark your calendars for our annual spring extravaganza! We will present the spring music program on Tuesday, May 19, from 7:00pm - 8:00pm in Holy Name Church. Students should dress in bright spring colors and in their Sunday best! No jeans or shorts allowed in church. Performers should arrive at their homerooms by 6:15pm. May 18 “Kickers for Tickers” fundraiser for American Heart Association Students will perform songs, dances, and instrumental renditions from a variety of cultures and in a variety of languages. Musical performance is a music curriculum standard for all students, K-8, so attendance is important. May 19 Spring program 7:00pm, Church of the Holy Name Our spring program is always one of the highlights of the school year. We hope you will invite friends and family members who might benefit from May 14 Radio Disney assembly for K-5 President’s Corner: Important Information: For your child’s safety: Please pick up your student on the corner of 11th and 37th. Busses and walkers do not belong together. Beware of the DANGER ZONE around our busses! Liz Ramsey learning about Risen Christ School. We still have room at most grade levels for enrollment next year. A cold treat will be served in the south parking lot after the performance, weather permitting. In case of rain, the treat will be served in the cafeteria. PLEASE NOTE: • Holy Name does not allow balloons in the church due to the high ceiling. • Fire codes require all audience to remain seated during the performance and that the aisles remain clear for performers to move on and off the stage. I look forward to working with Michael in the weeks ahead as I transition to retirement and he begins his tenure as the leader of this great faith and learning community! The Risen Christ Catholic School Board of Directors is delighted to announce that Michael Rogers will become the school’s second president effective July 1, 2015. Michael was selected after a comprehensive search process that included input from members of the board, faculty, staff and community members. John Banovetz, board chair, stated, “Everyone involved in the process was impressed with the range of Michael’s experiences, his enthusiasm for the Risen Christ mission and dual language program, and his deep commitment to Catholic education. Michael has the leadership qualities necessary to insure Risen Christ continues to provide an outstanding bilingual, multicultural and financially accessible education for children in south Minneapolis.” The Risen Christ School community is excited to have Michael join us as our new school president while we continue our transformation into a dual language immersion school: “Welcome” and “Bienvenidos!” NEWS and NOTES Have you returned your registration packet for 201516? Only 16 places left in our dual immersion K program for next year. Only 5 places left in our dual immersion 1st grade. E3 Family Night The final E3 family night of the year will be held at 6:30pm on Tuesday, May 12, in Garvey Hall at Holy Name Church. The evening will include a community fair where you can find summer programs for your children as well as services for your family. Come and enjoy a wonderful, healthy meal prepared by Chef Marshall and join in the fun with the whole family! Graduation Events The end of the 2014/15 school year is fast approaching and we are preparing to say good-bye to thirty-seven young men and women of exceptional caliber. Many of these students have been part of the Risen Christ family since kindergarten, while others have joined us more recently. We are proud of them all. Please put the following events on your calendar to help us celebrate all the achievements of the Class of 2015! We’re on the Web! Thursday, May 21 See us at: We will celebrate our Baccalaureate Mass in Holy Name Church at 10:15am and ask God’s blessing on our eighth graders as they take their next steps into the future. www.risenchristschool. org We will celebrate and thank our wonderful volunteers at a special appreciation luncheon at 11:30am in Garvey Hall (basement of Holy Name Church). Tuesday, May 26 We will host a special awards ceremony highlighting the achievements of the class of 2015 in the school gym at 10:15am. The eighth graders will then go over to Holy Name Church for graduation practice. At noon they will enjoy a special lunch prepared for them by the ladies from St. Patrick’s Church in Edina. They will then be excused at 12:30pm so they can prepare for the graduation ceremony. Students should report to Garvey Hall at 6:30pm. The ceremony will begin promptly at 7:00pm. A reception for the graduates will be held in the school cafeteria immediately afterward. Balloons are not allowed in Holy Name Church. Please do not bring them to the ceremony.
