Here are suggestions from the pages in this book.
• “Go Like Sixty,” Page 19: This puzzle features factors. Factors are numbers that when multiplied
together produce another specific number: 4 and 15 are factors of 60; 14 and 7 are not. To solve
this maze, your child can pass through only numbers that are factors of 60.
• “Pie Time,” Page 22: Your child is probably already familiar with basic fractions. In this activity,
she’ll have fun putting that knowledge to use, combining slices of pie in a way that fills three
pie plates. She’ll need to compare fractions that have the same denominator, and compare
equivalent fractions—those with different numerators and denominators that name the same

amount. For example, there are two pie plates with —
4 of a pie in each. Two 4 s = 2 . If she puts

those pieces together with another half, she’ll have one full pie—and —
3 of the puzzle is solved!

A MIGHTY
MEAL
Grimbash was a mighty giant who was always hungry.
One day he sat down to eat a meal of 30 hamburgers. After
Grimbash had eaten 6 of them, his wife, Grizzelda, who also
was a giant, came into the kitchen and asked Grimbash to share.
Since Grimbash was a nice giant, he evenly split the remaining
burgers with his wife. They began eating. After each had eaten
3 burgers, their son, Garrumpus, came in. He was hungry, too.
So his parents divided their remaining burgers equally among
the three of them. The burgers were quickly eaten, and the
giants soon fell fast asleep.
