ACIS 2015 Doctoral Consortium: Call for Proposals and Participation
The ACIS 2015 Doctoral Consortium will provide doctoral students with a unique opportunity to have
substantive interaction with other researchers regarding their proposed dissertation research. This
consortium will be a significant event for emerging IS researchers. This will provide the opportunity
for PhD students to network with leading international information researchers, establish their
profile as an emerging researcher within the field and obtain critical feedback on their work.
The objectives of the Doctoral Consortium are:
 To provide a forum where doctoral students can present and discuss their research with
experienced IS researchers: Faculty mentors.
 To provide students with an opportunity to establish a supportive community, including
other doctoral students at a similar stage of their dissertation research.
Eligibility
Ph.D. students who are currently working on a doctoral dissertation in the Information Systems
discipline, and whose research has progressed to the point where a clear plan of investigation has
been laid out, but there is sufficient scope for changes to this plan based on feedback from the
consortium.
Prospective attendees should have written, or be close to completing, a thesis proposal (or
equivalent). It is desirable that the student is not so close to completion that the event would have
little impact on their work. Before submitting, students should discuss this criterion with their
advisor or supervisor.
The nominated candidates must be sufficiently proficient in English to participate in the consortium,
since the language of the consortium will be English.
Nomination letter
Students must be nominated by a faculty member. A nomination letter from either the director of
the IS doctoral program, the IS department’s chairperson, or the candidate’s thesis/dissertation
advisor/ supervisor should certify that that the candidate is the nominee from the
university/institution, and that the candidate meets the eligibility criteria. The nomination letter
should also include a statement by their advisor/supervisor saying how the student would benefit by
attending the Consortium.
Call for proposals and selection criteria
To get the most out of the discussion, a submitted proposal should include:
 Thesis title
 Motivation for the proposed research
 Background and related work (including key references)
 Description of proposed research, including main research questions
 The theoretical foundations of the research
 Research model and proposed hypotheses (if applicable)
 Research methodology and proposed research design (where appropriate)
 Expected contribution

Current stage of the research and plans for completion
Specific research issues for discussion at the Doctoral Consortium
The proposal should meet the submission requirements of research-in-progress (RIP) papers for ACIS.
Submissions will be reviewed by the Doctoral Consortium co-chairs. The accepted Doctoral
Consortium proposals will be considered for publication in the conference proceedings.
Candidates for the Consortium will be selected based on the potential of their research for future
impact on the field of Information Systems and the likely benefit to the student of participation in
the Consortium. The Consortium will include a balanced mix of students representing diverse
research topics, methods, schools and cultures. The number of attendees will be limited to 20,
organised into four streams of five students.
Documents needed for submission
Nominees are required to submit the three documents listed below.

(1) Cover page:
A cover page should show the candidate’s full name, affiliation (university and school/department),
names of supervisors, and contact details including mailing and e-mail addresses, and telephone
numbers. The candidate should also include a detailed statement by the student explaining why they
want to participate in the ACIS 2015 Doctoral Consortium at this point in their doctoral studies, and
how they hope it will contribute to the development of their work and potential future career.
Students complete the cover page and submit it along with the other two documents mentioned
below.

Note: A complete submission file (in ONE FILE and must be in PDF format) should include three
documents: a cover page, a proposal and a nomination letter. The file must be submitted via the
ACIS2015 online submission system. Make sure you choose the “Doctoral Consortium” track. The
nominee can then upload their file that can be altered, re-uploaded or deleted. Once the nominee
"submits" their file to the system, it can no longer be changed, edited, or revised. Submissions that
do not follow the requirements will not be considered.
Consortium program
The Consortium program will run from early afternoon on 30th November till mid-afternoon on 1st
December 2015, including parallel presentation sessions, a panel, and a workshop.
The parallel sessions will focus on providing constructive feedback to students on their research.
Each student will present his or her research in a designated stream led by two to three faculty
mentors, who will have carefully reviewed the student submissions. Participants are required to
have carefully reviewed all proposals in their stream prior to the Consortium so that they are
prepared to contribute to the discussion on each student’s research. Panel and workshop will focus

on practical and relevant topics, e.g. how to publish in top journals and how to respond to reviewers;
how to review; thesis examination; job interviews; and career paths after the PhD. The details will be
released in due course.
Social event: a welcome cocktail party will be held on the night of 30th Nov and will be combined
with the conference welcome reception.

Registration and cost
There is no registration fee to attend the consortium. However, all accepted students to the
Consortium are required to register for and attend the ACIS 2015 conference which immediately
follows the Consortium. This will cover attendance at all conference sessions and exhibits,
conference lunches/refreshment breaks. Home institutions are expected to provide financial
assistance to successful nominees in the form of travel and accommodation expenses.
