MARCH - APRIL 2015 George Katzenberger Photographer, Artist and Instructor JURIED SHOW RECEPTION Date: Tuesday, March 10, 2015 Time: 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM Location: Norman P. Murray Center, Jacaranda Room, 24932 Veterans Way, Mission Viejo, CA 92692 ABOUT THE ARTIST: George is an advertising photographer specialized in product and advertising photography and has owned the Katzenberger Photography studio in Santa Ana since 1986. He teaches photography workshops and classes for the City of Mission Viejo, Irvine Fine Arts Center, and has guest lectured at Saddleback College and USC. Although shooting digital for all other commercial work, George also shoots black and white film in a 4x5 view camera documenting buildings, dams, bridges, etc., for the Historical American Building Survey (HABS) and the Historical American Engineering Record (HAER) sections of the Library of Congress. Born in Seattle and raised in Garden Grove, CA, George's interest in photography began in 1974 when he found an SLR camera and took a beginner’s class. George went on to earn a photography degree at Orange Coast College, CA. In 1976, George got a job as the photographer at a novel new technology store called “The Candid Computer” shooting portraits of the public in a mall. The system used a TV camera connected to a “digitizer," a 16 bit computer and a 7 pin dot matrix printer. As a result, George is perhaps Orange County's first (non-scientist) digital photographer. George’s true love, however, is shooting documentary photography. Current projects include the “Impostor Project” in which full size artificial “trees” found in suburban environments are revealed by using infrared photography. The critically acclaimed “Impostors” work has been growing since 2006.
