CITY OF MISSION VIEJO
Mission Viejo: The Ageless Land
A History Book
and DVD of
Mission Viejo
Did you know?
Lake Mission Viejo is not the first water to cover
the land of Mission Viejo. Twelve million years
ago, the scene at the intersection of Olympiad and
Alicia Parkway, would be busy with sleek bodied
sharks swimming rapidly through water ready to
attack shoals of herring, mackerel, and an
occasional sea lion or maybe a whale surfacing
lazily from the deep sea to face a giant bird
struggling with a fish in its massive beak.
Did you know?
The mustard seeds were first planted in 1769 by
Don Miguel Costanso, a member of the expedition
party of Spanish Governor Don Gaspar de Portola
as he traveled along Mission Viejo's eastern border.
The yellow blooms quickly grew and enabled the
Spanish to mark their route through California's El
Camino Real.
