Our Future
The Southern Arizona Gender Alliance,
Inc. (SAGA) provides support, education,
and outreach for individuals of all gender
identities and expressions, as well as families, friends and allies, service providers,
and employers. We welcome anyone seeking
a progressive understanding of gender and
who is unaware of our existence or who
wishes to assist us in achieving our vision of
a society in which any person at any point in
the gender spectrum is guaranteed their
basic rights & can be open, honest, and safe
at home, at work, and in the community.
After a decade in partnership with
Wingspan, Tucson’s GLBT Community
Center, SAGA set out on its own as a 501(c)
(3) non-profit organization in 2014.
SAGA is and always has been focused first
on helping people with various gender identities and expressions find sources of
strength and support from people who share
like experiences.
Our History
The issues and needs of transgender,
transsexual, and gender-diverse people
have become more visible in recent years as
more and more trans-identified people
speak out about their experiences of
oppression and discrimination.
SAGA was established in early 1998 to help
address those needs for the transgender
community in Tucson. Since then, SAGA has
expanded into a viable resource from which
several projects have evolved. Membership
grows with each passing month, and we are
always ready to embrace new members and
ideas.
In January of 2003, SAGA merged with
TGNet Arizona, another grassroots
organization working for transgender rights,
following the death of TGNet Arizona’s
founder, Alexander John Goodrum.
SAGA is fiscally managed by a Board of
Directors. Programs are planned and
produced by the volunteer SAGA Advisory
Committee, which is open to anyone
interested in contributing to our mission.

The Arizona Transgender Workplace
Project (ATWORK) fosters open,
inclusive and safe working environments
by promoting an understanding of gender
expression and gender identity among
managers and other supervisory-level
personnel. The ATWORK Project provides
an enlightening, informative presentation
