POSITION X1500 Tennessee Extension Internship Program . 10
Tennessee Extension Internship Program
10-week Summer Internship
The student will be assigned to a county extension office for the entire 10 weeks of the Internship. Prior to
being assigned to a county, interns will participate in a day-long orientation to familiarize them with
Tennessee Extension Programs.
May 29, 2015 to August 7, 2015
A stipend in the amount of $5,500 for the 10-week internship is provided for each intern. As with any position, it is expected that an intern is able to
get to and from work each day. Generally, interns ride with Extension agents during significant work-related travel; therefore interns do not receive a
travel budget allotment.
Provide African American and other underrepresented group students an opportunity to study, observe and participate in a County Extension
program under the direction and supervision of experienced County Agents.
The Department of Extension Evaluation and Staff Development will be responsible for the general supervision and coordination of the
Internship program in cooperation with the Extension Regional Directors and Extension County Directors. Day-to-day supervision and
coordination of the Intern's assignments and activities while in the county are the responsibility of the County Director or an Extension Agent to
whom the responsibility has been delegated by the Director.
Candidates must be considered to be a member of a racial or ethnic minority group.
Must be enrolled in a college of agriculture, family and consumer sciences, education or closely related major.
Should have completed approximately 50 percent of the required course work for the Bachelor's degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.7 (on a 4.0
scale) or higher, or must be a graduate student.
Preference will be given to students presently enrolled in a Tennessee university or a resident of Tennessee. Preference will also be given to
those with Extension program experience (i.e. former 4-H member, etc.). However, all eligible applicants will be considered.
Students should be considering Extension as a future employment option.
Must reside in, or live within a reasonable commuting distance of the assigned county.
Must have own transportation to and from work.
Must present a written and oral report of the training experience at the end of the internship program.
For best consideration, applications for the internship should be submitted on-line to Tomi Rogers by April 8, 2015. Applications received
after this date may not be considered.
Successful applicants will be notified in May 2015.
