“Over a Century of Catholic Tradition
Serving Our Community”
PARISH MISSION STATEMENT
We, the parishioners of Saint Anastasia, are a strong faith based community, grounded in more than a century of Catholic
tradition rooted in worship and service. Compelled by the Good News of Jesus Christ, we are committed to growing in a
deeper relationship with God and with one another. We strive to become a more vibrant parish by inspiring an atmosphere
of belonging, of welcoming, and by promoting opportunities to share and spread our Catholic Faith, so that we may be
more united as one parish community.

REMEMBER OUR DECEASED
Please pray for all the deceased members of the St. Anastasia Faith Community that they may be welcomed into the happiness of
eternal life especially, Thomas Cappie
Dear Parishioners of Saint Anastasia,
On Saturday, May 9th Thomas O’Donald will be ordained a Deacon by Archbishop Chaput. Many of you know
Thomas from his association with the parish over the years.
He has spoken for the Saint Charles Seminary Appeal in the past and assisted at various liturgies, especially during Holy
Week. I know you join with me in offering our congratulations and best wishes to Tom on this joyful occasion.
Tom will be the homilist at the 12:00 Mass on May 10 th. God willing, Tom will be ordained a priest around this
time next year. During the year ahead he will be assigned to serve in a parish while completing his seminary courses. May
we remember Thomas, his family, and his classmates in our prayers.
Have a great week,
Fr. Colagreco

LEARNING FROM AND PRAYING THE OUR FATHER
Wednesdays, 9:30 AM or 7:00 PM, Rectory Meeting Room.
Perhaps the best way to learn to pray is by following the
example of Jesus. This study will guide us through the prayer
Jesus taught us, and asks us to consider important questions as
we learn to pray: What are we asking for? What are we
committing ourselves to? What does the Our Father teach us
about prayer? Each week will focus on one line of the Our
Father. This study is perfect for busy adults who want to study
the Bible but don't know where to begin! The lessons are six
concise, 90-minute segments. The guide we use is very userfriendly and our study groups are fun and interesting. To sign
up, contact Theresa Haggerty at 610-356-5069 or
[email protected]. Come, join us! Even if you can't
make it to every session, come when you can!
FIRST STEPS TOWARD CATHOLIC FAITH
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) is designed for
those adults who have never been baptized, those baptized in
another faith tradition or those Catholics in special
circumstances seeking Confirmation and /or Eucharist. The
sessions will be held on Tuesday, May 26th, at 7:00 PM for
anyone who may be thinking about participating in the RCIA
process and considering the riches of the Catholic faith. The
program is called Seeking Christ: First Steps Toward Catholic
Faith. The sessions are held in the lower level of the Rectory.
For more information about these sessions contact Sister Mary
Barrar at 610-356-1613 or [email protected]
Parishioners, be sure to invite your non-Catholic relatives,
friends or neighbors to consider becoming a Catholic.
Encourage them to come and participate in Seeking Christ:
First Steps Toward Catholic Faith.
HOPE
HELPING OUR PARISHIONERS IN EMERGENCY
St. Paul in his book to the Hebrews states, “We must consider
how to rouse one another to love and good works.”
As one parish community, “HOPE” is a ministry which will
provide opportunities to reach out and be of service to our
shut-ins, elderly or those in need in our community.
Do you have an hour or two free during the day to drive
someone to the doctor or take someone food shopping?
Would you consider being on a list to be called when someone
in the parish is in need? Maybe, our Hope Ministry is calling
you. This is also a way to meet someone new in the parish and
to build a relationship. There will be flyers at the Church door
if you are interested. If you have any questions, please contact
Sister Sue. ([email protected] or 484-422-8861)
A Lost and Found Box is now located on top of the coat rack
outside the Chapel. Please do not put any items on the pamphlet
rack in the front of the Church. Thank you for your cooperation.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY
In the Gospel today, Jesus says “Whoever remains in me and I
in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do
nothing.” Indeed, by helping the poor we can “bear much fruit”
and we find that with Jesus we can do everything. Your gift to
the Society of St. Vincent de Paul will show that you are
indeed the disciple of Jesus as it will bring your love to those
who live in fear and doubt, loneliness and dread.
“Lord, please hold our troops in Your loving hands. Protect
them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. We ask
this in the name of Jesus our Lord and Savior, Amen”

ST. BERNADETTE PARISH, DREXEL HILL
In 1990 Bernadette McKenzie was a 12 year old 7 th grade
student at St. Bernadette when she was diagnosed with a
debilitating disease called Tethered Chord Syndrome. This
disease left her in excruciating pain and mostly bedridden over
the course of the following few years, despite 3 surgeries
performed to help alleviate her condition. On March 17, 1992
the McKenzie family was informed that Bernadette was
considered a surgical failure and that there was nothing more
the doctors could do for her. The prognosis was she would be
bedridden the rest of her life. She was 14 years old. The
principal at the time, Sr. Anne Elizabeth, a member of the
Oblate Sisters of St. Francis de Sales, suggested to the family
that perhaps the parish could begin a novena to Blessed Francis
de Sales Aviat, her orders’ foundress. On March 22, 1992 the
novena was begun. On the afternoon of March 25, 1992,
Bernadette’s parents arrived home from work to find
Bernadette completely free from her pain and debilitation.
Eventually her case was sent to Rome to be considered a
miraculous cure. On December 18, 2000, Pope John Paul II
declared Bernadette’s cure a miracle due to the intercession of
Blessed Francis de Sales Aviat. On November 25, 2001
St. Leonie Aviat was canonized because of this holy and
blessed event. St. Bernadette Parish will begin a weekly
Novena to St. Leonie Aviat to be held in the church at 7:00 PM
every Monday evening. This Novena is not for anything
special but for anyone who has a special need and/or request.

SUPPORT OUR SCHOOL
For more than 150 years the Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia have been teaching our children the skills
and values that they need to excel throughout their adult lives.
St. Anastasia School is the largest parish grade school in Delaware County. Our school has “state of the art” technology and
is one of only 42 privately operated elementary schools in the
nation to receive the Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award
in 2007 from the United States Department of Education. One
of the largest expenses our Parish incurs is the debt service on
the loan which was necessary to build our beautiful school.
We ask all parishioners to support our children and our parish
school by contributing generously, once a month, to the special
offering for the parish debt reduction. Thank you for your continued support.
