Thanksgiving
The past few days we have witnessed so much devastation and heartbreak that Thanksgiving
should take on an extra special meaning for us this year. Natural disasters seem to put things
into perspective for us very quickly. Our thoughts and prayers go out to our neighbors and
friends especially in New Jersey and even as close as Levittown for their courage to endure
their loss and for the strength to rebuild their lives.
Sandy
Although the hurricane/tropical storm did not do much damage to school physically, it has
disrupted our schedule. Therefore… the awards that would have been given out at the Nov. 1st
Mass, will be given at the Thanksgiving prayer service on Nov. 20th. Also, unless I get word
that some days do not have to be made up, we will use Nov. 21st and January 2nd as make-up
days. As of now, we will have school on both those days. If anything changes, I will let you
know. We will also cancel the Fall Festival with the hope of having some kind of Spirit Day at
a later date.
I know that some of you may have travel plans in place, but your child will just have to be
absent on those days. We do not know what the winter will bring and we cannot wait to use
our later holidays.
Target Charge Card
Do you have a Target or Target Visa charge card? If you do, please consider enrolling your
card in the Take Charge of Education program for our school. Target will give St. Ephrem 1%
of your purchases made with the charge card. Right now, we have 73 families enrolled.
Designate our school (ID# 14591) at www.Target.com/tcoe or call 1-800-316-6142.
Goodsearch.com
When buying on-line, please consider doing so through the Goodsearch website. Most
vendors are listed on their website and school receives a percentage of your purchase when you
use that website to access your vendor’s site. We also receive one cent for every search you do
using Goodsearch.
To change your browser to Goodsearch: Open Internet>Type: www.goodsearch.com into the
browser>click on Tools (right side)>Click on Internet Options>Click on Use Current for Home
page>Click Apply, then OK. Register St. Ephrem as your charity (you do not need to make an
account, just put St. Ephrem as the charity) When shopping, go through Good Shopping and
our school automatically receives a percentage.
Assistance
Around this time each year, various organizations in the area ask for names of families who may be
struggling financially and who could use some assistance with food, etc. for Thanksgiving and
Christmas We are often not aware of people’s situations and they miss out on this kindness. If you
know of a family in need or if your own family needs help at this time, please get the name to me or to
Sr. Anne Gallagher (215-604-1002).
Chance & Auction
There will be an informational Wine and Cheese meeting at 7 PM on Tuesday, November 13th in the
Marian Parish Center for those interested in helping with C&A. Attendance does not mean automatic
commitment, so come and see if you are able to lend a hand with our biggest and most important
fundraiser. Meet new people, make new friends, and have a good time doing something that will benefit
your children.
Confirmation
Congratulations to our students who will receive the sacrament of Confirmation on Nov. 4th. Thank you
to Mrs. Battson, Mrs. Scholl, and Sr. Elenore for all their hard work in preparing the students for this
important day and to Sr. Vera and the adult choir for enhancing the ceremony with music and song.
Family Bingo
H&S will hold our annual Family Bingo on Saturday, Nov. 17th at 6 PM. Mark your calendars!
Picture Retakes
Picture retakes are scheduled for Monday, Nov. 12th. Retakes are for anyone who was absent on picture
day or anyone who does not like their pictures. If you want an actual retake, you must return the
package of pictures you received to the photographer when your child has a new photo taken.
Those who ordered class pictures will receive them at a later date as they are held for the students who
were absent to be place on them.
