THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD - APRIL 5, 2015
Painting above and on cover: “Resurrection
of Christ” by Carl Bloch (1875)
Masses
Acts 10:34a, 37-43; Ps 118; Col 3:1-4
Gospel: Jn 20:1-9
Last week we recalled the Passion of Christ and now we
celebrate his victory over sin and death. Place yourself
into today’s story as the disciple whom Jesus loved. See
yourself running to the tomb. You spent the last three
years with him, witnessed miracles, learned his teachings
and saw his divinity in the transfiguration. Still, you do not
fully understand who he is or what he prophesied. When
you reach the tomb, what are you thinking? For Peter,
“he saw and believed.” Everything he had witnessed and
learned came to light. He now understood all that had been
revealed to him. As Christians we too are witnesses that see
and believe. Let us be like Peter and share the good news.

Announcements
Saint of the Week:
Saint Julia Billiart
• It is time to drop off
your CRS Rice Bowls in
the marked boxes at the
church and at the PAC
Julia was poorly educated, but she knew
her Catechism by heart at age 7. At age 14 she took a private
vow of chastity and gave her life to serving and teaching
the poor. At age 22, she was sitting next to her father when
he was shot and the shock left her partially paralyzed. She
was miraculously healed in 1804 and resumed her work
establishing The Congregation of the Sisters of Notre Dame.
Her order was dedicated to the Christian education of girls.
By the time of her death the Congregation, also known as the
Institute of Notre Dame, had 15 convents.
• Next Sunday is Divine
Mercy Sunday. Information
on the special evening
service is on page 3.
Born: July 12, 1751

Weekly Scripture Challenge~ by Tim Rimmer
The Sadducees did not believe in resurrection. The Pharisees believed in
resurrection, but only for people who were righteous to the Mosaic Law.
Christians believe in the resurrection of the body and spirit, but only if you
believe in the one the Father sent, Jesus Christ. What about people who died
before Christ was incarnate, people who do not believe in Jesus, people who never heard
of Jesus, or people of other faiths? Will they see the Kingdom of God? – See Rev 3:4-5 and
think about the book of life and the generosity of God.
Quiet Please!
Protecting God’s Children
Please be aware when you are walking
into the church or PAC before Mass that
there is likely someone sitting in prayer.
Occasionally, there will be a Rosary being
prayed.
If you plan on volunteering within
the parish in any activity that involves
children, it is mandatory to participate in
a Protecting God’s Children (PCG) session.
The next session will be held on Saturday,
April 18 from 9 a.m. - noon at Sts Simon
and Jude, 9350 Co Hwy 49, West Jefferson
in the Social Hall. This would be a perfect
opportunity if you think you might help
out with VBS this summer. Please contact
Sue York (page 6) for more information and
registration.
Also, please be respectful in the cry room
at the PAC. The room is a great way to
help your children understand the Mass
because you can explain things without
causing too much of a distraction. It is also
an opportunity for them to get used to
sitting through the hour. When the room
gets too loud, it makes it difficult for others
to hear the Mass and participate.
Congratulations!
Eden Carol Ward, daughter of
Elliott & Abby, was baptized
February 22, 2015.
Support the Building Fund

proceeds go to support the
building fund.

on the second and fourth
weekends of the month.
