Jesus welcomes everyone – no exceptions! Jesus was famous for extending a radical welcome to everyone he met, crossing over all kinds of human-made lines and boundaries. Having received Jesus’ radical welcome ourselves, we extend that same welcome to all people. At Saint Luke, every person’s identity is recognized and celebrated as a gift from God – no exceptions! Everything you need to participate in worship included in this bulletin. You may use the enclosed green Connection Card to give or request information. The People of Saint Luke, Ministers The Rev. Susan Ericsson, Lead Pastor [email protected] The Rev. Matthew Staniz, Pastor for Youth, Family & Service [email protected] The Rev. Mary Konopka, Visitation Pastor John D. Charles, AIM, Director of Church Music GATHERING SONG “One Day Too Late” Cooper & Howes WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS CALL TO WORSHIP Clap your hands, all you peoples; shout to God with loud songs of joy! For God has ascended with shouts of triumph, and trumpet fanfare! Our God is exalted on high, sovereign over all the nations, and Lord of our lives. Let’s worship together. (based on Psalm 27) SONG OF PRAISE “Here I Am To Worship” Tim Hughes Light of the world, you stepped down into darkness Opened my eyes, let me see Beauty that made this heart adore You; Hope of a life spent with You. Chorus: So here I am to worship, here I am to bow down, Here I am to say that You're my God. And You're altogether lovely, altogether worthy, Altogether wonderful to me. King of all days, oh so highly exalted; Glorious in heaven above. Humbly You came to the earth You created; All for love's sake became poor. So here I am to worship, here I am to bow down, Here I am to say that You're my God. And You're altogether lovely, altogether worthy, Altogether wonderful to me. And I'll never know how much it cost, To see my sin upon that cross. I'll never know how much it cost, to see my sin upon that cross. So here I am to worship, here I am to bow down, Here I am to say that You're my God. And You're altogether lovely, altogether worthy, Altogether wonderful to me. Repeat Chorus PRAYER OF THE DAY The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. All-powerful God, in Jesus Christ you turned death into life and defeat into victory. Increase our faith and trust in him, that we may triumph over all evil in the strength of the same Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. LESSON Matthew 28:16-20 16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age." CHILDREN’S MESSAGE LESSON Acts 17:16-34 16 While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was deeply distressed to see that the city was full of idols. 17So he argued in the synagogue with the Jews and the devout persons, and also in the marketplace every day with those who happened to be there. 18Also some Epicurean and Stoic philosophers debated with him. Some said, "What does this babbler want to say?" Others said, "He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign divinities." (This was because he was telling the good news about Jesus and the resurrection.) 19So they took him and brought him to the Areopagus and asked him, "May we know what this new teaching is that you are presenting? 20It sounds rather strange to us, so we would like to know what it means." 21Now all the Athenians and the foreigners living there would spend their time in nothing but telling or hearing something new. 22 Then Paul stood in front of the Areopagus and said, "Athenians, I see how extremely religious you are in every way. 23For as I went through the city and looked carefully at the objects of your worship, I found among them an altar with the inscription, 'To an unknown god.' What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you. 24The God who made the world and everything in it, he who is Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in shrines made by human hands, 25nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mortals life and breath and all things. 26From one ancestor he made all nations to inhabit the whole earth, and he allotted the times of their existence and the boundaries of the places where they would live, 27so that they would search for God and perhaps grope for him and find him — though indeed he is not far from each one of us. 28For 'In him we live and move and have our being'; as even some of your own poets have said, 'For we too are his offspring.' 29 Since we are God's offspring, we ought not to think that the deity is like gold, or silver, or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of mortals. 30While God has overlooked the times of human ignorance, now he commands all people everywhere to repent, 31because he has fixed a day on which he will have the world judged in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed, and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead." 32 When they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some scoffed; but others said, "We will hear you again about this." 33At that point Paul left them. 34But some of them joined him and became believers, including Dionysius the Areopagite and a woman named Damaris, and others with them. MESSAGE SONG OF THE DAY Pastor Staniz "Trading My Sorrows" Darrell Evans I'm trading my sorrows, I'm trading my shame; I'm laying them down for the joy of the Lord. I'm trading my sickness, I'm trading my pain; I'm laying them down for the joy of the Lord. And we say Yes Lord…Yes Lord…Yes, Yes Lord! Yes Lord…Yes Lord…Yes, Yes Lord! Yes Lord…Yes Lord…Yes, Yes Lord…AMEN! I am pressed but not crushed, persecuted, not abandoned, Struck down but not destroyed. I am blessed beyond the curse, for His promise will endure, That his joy is gonna be my strength. Though the sorrow may last for the night, His joy comes with the morning. I'm trading my sorrows, I'm trading my shame; I'm laying them down for the joy of the Lord. LABYRINTH DEDICATION Through the ages, Almighty God has moved his people to set apart holy places for prayer and to recognize and celebrate God’s presence in those places. With gratitude and thanksgiving for this labyrinth, we are now gathered to dedicate and bless it in God’s Name. Let us pray: That this labyrinth may be a path of transformation and growth for all who walk in the ways of seeking and longing, Lord, hear our prayer and be our guide. That this labyrinth may be a path of thanksgiving and gratitude for all who walk in the ways of celebration and joy, Lord, hear our prayer and be our guide. That this labyrinth may be a path of wisdom and discernment for all who walk in the ways of confusion and darkness, and a path of hope and consolation for all who walk the way of sorrow and grief, Lord, hear our prayer and be our guide. That this labyrinth may be a path of courage and perseverance for all who walk in the ways of fear and anxiety, and a path of rest and refreshment for all who walk in the ways of busyness and weariness, Lord, hear our prayer and be our guide. That this labyrinth be a path of healing and restoration for all who walk in the ways of illness and brokenness, and a path of life and resurrection for all who walk in the ways of death and loss, Lord, hear our prayer and be our guide. That this labyrinth be a path of thanksgiving and gratitude for all who walk in celebration and joy, Lord, hear our prayer and be our guide. We dedicate this labyrinth, O Lord, for your sake and to your glory, In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. BENEDICTION Almighty and merciful God, Father, + Son, and Holy Spirit, bless, preserve, and keep you this day and forevermore. Amen. SENDING SONG "Shout To The Lord!"
