‘’BUT ONE THING IS NEEDFUL’’
Luke 10:42
The Lord has a purpose and a reason in each
visit or action He made and His words were
well calculated to give the listeners a clear
message that would help them and even us
today to learn to value God’s Word more than
anything .Setting out priorities right is one
test that is often thrown before us almost
every day of our lives and many times we find
ourselves engaged in activities that only prove
that we have not known the things that are of
value to us.
As a child of God, one has to learn to put first
thing first. As we walk along with our Lord we
learn new things about Him and about
ourselves. When we are able to sense what
the Lord is indicating in our lives through His
Word then our salvation is assured. There
may be nothing wrong or evil with the things
we do or say each day but anything said or
done to the wrong person, at the wrong time,
may turn out to be wrong or unacceptable,

Proverbs 16:25, “There is a way which
seemeth right n the eyes of man but the end
thereof are the ways of death. ”
One may ask what could be wrong with
serving the Lord with wonderful meal. In
truth, everything can be unprofitable if we fail
to understand that the Lord values the
sustenance of the soul more than the body.
Deuteronomy 8:3””….man doth not live by
bread only but by every word that
proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord
shall man live. ” Jesus quoted the same verse
when the devil came to tempt Him. He said in
John 6:63, the flesh does not profit anything

The things we pursue which appear so real and
true can mislead us and blind us from the things of
value if we fail to apply the Word of God.
but what is important is the nourishment of
the soul by the Spirit inspired WORD.
Martha did a good thing the wrong time. It
was not the time to entertain the Lord with
the things of this world at a time when the
things pertaining to the world to come were
being given. It was not time to labour for the
meat that would soon decay in the grave
when the Word that is able to save her soul
was being preached. John 6:27,“Labour not
for the meat which perisheth, but for that
meat which endureth unto everlasting life
which the Son of man shall give unto you…”
Martha focused on what she thought was the
right thing to do for the Lord but found herself
out of step with what the Lord considered as
important. Serving the Lord with a
complaining heart will never yield profitable
results, Paul admonishes us to do all things
without complaining , Philipians 2:14. When
we consider the Words of the Lord,”….Mary
hath chosen that good part,” What is the good
thing? Dear saints, my heart’s desire is that
we all get the point clear, there are many
good things we can do, they may truly be
things that help in our day to day welfare and
are very necessary, but when it comes to the
Word OF GOD, everything else stop for it is
the Word that makes us acceptable in Jesus if
we hear and do according to His Word.
Matthew 7:24, to be built upon the Rock,
Jesus, 1Corithians 10:4 we need the Word
JESUS , Revelation 19:13, NOTHING SHOULD
DITRUCT YOU FROM THE WORD OF GOD.
