April 12 - Saint Rita Catholic Church and School in Webster, NY
APRIL 12, 2015 “Let the house of Israel say, “His mercy endures forever.” Let the house of Aaron say, “His mercy endures forever.” Let those who fear the LORD say, “His mercy endures forever.” Psalm 118 Dear Parishioners and Friends, This weekend we continue with the Second Sunday of Easter or what is now referred to as “Divine Mercy Sunday.” The theme of the next church year will, on the direction of Pope Francis, focus on God’s mercy and of our call to show mercy to one another. In an address to thousands of people standing in St. Peter’s square during Easter Week, Pope Francis called for the international community to stand up against the terrible deeds being committed against “our brothers and sisters” in the Middle East. Many have been “killed, exiled and decapitated” simply because they are Christian. The international community, “cannot look the other way” said Pope Francis. Thankfully, the Easter message is one of hope. As Christians, we are called to “treat others differently.” The Pope said that the “resurrection of Christ is proclaimed when His light brightens the dark moments of our existence.” The light of Christ is proclaimed, “when we learn to smile with those who smile, and cry with those who cry, when we walk alongside those who are sad and risk losing their hope, and when we talk about our faith experience with those who are searching for meaning and happiness.” I know that we palpably sense the real need for mercy in our world, neighborhood and family. We can, and should, make mercy a habit of everyday life. This is not always easy to do, because it takes a bit of resolve and the ability to forgive others to show mercy. Jesus taught his disciples to pray the “Our Father” which includes a prayer for mercy for ourselves and for others. We hear the words within the prayer, “…and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.” The virtue of showing mercy is not something we can accomplish on our own. help that comes from God. We truly need the grace and For God is above all, THE Divine Mercy. May God’s gracious Mercy be yours! Fr. There were 27 students on these teams and 14 were new to the program this year. Over 164 teams came to the competition overall. These teams had to plan for months in solving problems (like making a silent movie with certain requirements, or a train that ran on its own through obstacles). The students are totally in charge of solving the problems with help only from a parent coach. They did great! + Thank you to all who supported the St. Rita Scholastic Spring Book Fair. Having it open during a Friday Fish Fry in Lent was a lot of fun and added to the week-long sale. Over $2000 in Scholastic book money was raised for our library!
