There were some fantastic cake creations provided and the children had an exciting non-uniform day. I am sure lots of you enjoyed watching the events unfold on Friday night and in our assemblies we have watched some of the clips to see the types of projects that the money raised will support. I am always impressed with the generosity of our families and the support that the children of St Stephens give to our charities. The children had a fun filled day and we were able to raise just over £450. Thank you for your generosity. Easter Bingo Thank you to everyone who turned up at the Easter Bingo on Friday. It was a smaller than usual turn-out but everyone enjoyed themselves and some went home with more than a few Easter Egg prizes. Thanks to Liz for organising the event and members of the Friends of St Stephens who were on hand to serve tuck and refreshments. Thanks also to the members of staff for their raffle prize contributions. Parent Conferences. These are taking place this week and parents should have been notified of their time slot. If you are able to arrive a little earlier you will be able to have a look through your child’s books prior to the meeting. Staff will then be able to take you through your child’s progress so far this year and share their learning targets for the coming term. Refreshments will be available in the hall served by Y6 school council members. Parent Forum A small group of parent representatives met yesterday and discussed a range of issues which included such things as, links with the church and community, behaviour, homework and our forthcoming parent conferences. In addition, a new pupil survey and spring term report format was discussed and suggestions were taken. The pupil survey will be carried out when we return in the summer and our new spring report format will be in place for next year. Parents will receive further information later in the year. Thank you to those parents who were able to attend and for those of you who want to contribute to this meeting the following parents are your representatives on this group: Year 2 Ms L Bartaby Year 4 Ms G Jones Year 6 Mrs L Heyes Year 3 Ms L Twentyman Year 5 Mrs N Daley Dinner Monies Dinner money is £1.25 per day/£6.25 per week, payable each Monday morning. British Week Celebrations Thank you to all the families who are joining us on Thursday for our Full English Breakfast and our Cream Tea Afternoon event. We have had a good response to both events and I am certain that the children will enjoy themselves on the day as well as learning all about British Values and what makes Great Britain GREAT! Thank you for your support and remember to talk with your child about their learning experiences during the week. The event is now fully booked, each event costs £2 per adult and £1 per child, payable on entry. Easter Bonnet Parade At the end of this term we are celebrating “It’s good to be British” with a focus on all that makes Britain unique. The children will explore the fundamental principles of British Life through a wide range of exciting crosscurricular activities. The 3 days will culminate in our Annual Easter Bonnet Parade which will take place from 2.00pm on Friday 27th March. In addition we also have the Annual EGGciting Designs where children can bring along their own imaginative creations. This year we would like the EGG Creations to have a Great Britain theme if possible. Prizes as usual will be awarded to the children who are the most creative. Children from Reception – Y4 can design a bonnet and every child has the opportunity to produce an “Eggciting model.” Children in year 5 and 6 will have the opportunity to design special Easter Cards. Winners and runners up in each class will receive an Easter Egg. Of course there will be no losers on the day as the Friends of St Stephens always buy a Cadbury’s Creme egg for all the children. If you are a parent new to school please ask your class teachers for further information. Family Learning Thank you to all those parents and grandparents who have supported our Family Learning Sessions on Monday mornings. These are set to continue when we return after Easter. The subject of Maths will be explored where parents can find ways of supporting their children with home learning and the maths curriculum in school. The turn-out this year has been the best for some time and for this our parents should be congratulated. Can I also thank the parents from our Reception class who join us for Family Friday. I have been really impressed with the strong partnership that we are forming with our new parents and we look forward to working with you as your children progress through the school. Parent Lesson Observations Parents from Year 1-Year 6 will also have the opportunity to visit school and observe their children’s learning. The sessions will take place on Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd April from 9am. Parents will have the opportunity to observe their child in a maths session and then meet with the headteacher to share their thoughts. The response to this last year was very good and we expect another good turn-out. Bikeability Well done to the members of our Year 6 who successfully passed their Bike Safety training last week for which they all received a certificate and a medal. If parents wish their child to cycle to school in the summer it is important that they wear a helmet. We will not allow children to cycle to school without a helmet as we are beside such a busy main road. Bikes should have their own lock and can be stored at the side of school next to the staff carpark. We do encourage children from all ages to cycle to school but parents of younger children may want to cycle with them to keep them safe.
