DETAILS:
Knot tying race will have divers tie a bowline knot, a reef (square) knot, and a double half-hitch
knot underwater. Knots will be checked to ensure that they are correctly tied. The sum of the
three times will determine the winner.
Shape ball challenge using Fisher Price child’s toy. Buddy hands one shape at a time to the
blindfolded diver who uses his/her fingers to find the appropriate hole into which to insert that
shape. Time ends when all the shapes have been inserted. Skin divers are placed on how
many shapes are inserted on one breathe. Scuba divers are placed on basis of time required to
insert all the shapes.
Lego construction race pits one skin diver against another in trying to put more Lego pieces
together in no particular shape than other divers. Scuba divers are timed to see who can put
them all together in the shortest time.
Pipe assembly race follows the pattern of the Lego construction race using ABS piping and
fittings
Balloon Blowing Contest Each diver takes two balloons to the bottom of the pool and blows
them up, ties the openings off, and makes a safe ascent to the surface. Fastest time wins.
Ping pong ball relay involves teams of two snorkel divers using kitchen serving spoons to
control a ping pong ball while swimming underwater. The first diver swims across the pool and
hands the spoon (and ball) off to the second who returns to the starting point. Fastest time
wins.
Bowling is done as in bowling at a surface bowling alley, we’re doing it under the water. Two
divers bowl two frames for the best score. The head pin counts as 5, the two pins next count as
3, and the end pins count as 2. Winners advance to the next round. This elimination continues
until a winner emerges.
Barrel Races see divers make their way around the traditional cloverleaf pattern, marked by
traffic delineators set on the bottom of the pool. Fastest time wins.
Chuckwagon Races see two divers using a rope to tow a third diver around a course set on the
bottom of the pool. The diver being towed cannot kick or use the arms to add to the propulsion
of the two towing.
Dinghy races involve one and two paddlers in each inflatable dinghy paddling two lengths of
the pool. Two dinghies are available.
Obstacle race using weighted and numbered hula hoops suspended at varying depths to
create the course. Events for snorkel divers and scuba divers. Timed event.
Underwater Hockey will be played according to the Canadian Underwater Hockey Association
Rules.
Scuba swap race is a relay race in which the first team member dons the gear (weight belt and
scuba unit) properly at the start signal, enters the water, descends to the bottom of the pool and
swims across the pool and back, making a safe ascent and exiting the water. The diver
removes the gear and the next dive dons the gear and repeats the effort. This is repeated for all
four team members. Fastest time wins. For those teams using weight integrated BCD’s, a
weight belt will be provided.
Scuba skill circuit race involves basic scuba skills (from the Open Water Scuba Diver level)
properly performed in a specified order. Each diver is timed from the start signal until exiting the
water after fully inflating the BCD.
ORGANIZATION:
Start at 9:30 am. and finish at 12:30 pm.
The venue is the new Battlefords Co-op Aquatic Centre at 623 Carlton Trail in North Battleford.

Knot Tying, Shape Ball, Lego Building, Pipe Construction, and Balloon Blowing Challenges will
run simultaneously at stations in the deep end of the pool. Groups will move from one station to
the other so that everyone has a chance at all the events.
Bowling and the Ping Pong Ball Relay will run simultaneously across the deep end.
The other events are run one at a time in the deep end with the exception of the dinghy races
which take place on the surface as the last event.
There will be categories for snorkel divers, scuba divers, and the Old Pros. The Old Pros wear
gloves for the Knot Tying, Shape Ball, Lego Building Challenges.
The individual divers will compete but their placing will be used to score team points.
Some of the events may be omitted if time runs short.
LUNCH:
At 1 pm a lunch will be served to competitors and guests.

$20.00 per competitor
$7.50 non-competitor lunch

There will be small prizes for the winners of each event.
