Regalia Pickup
Pick up your regalia in Rooms 719 & 720 of 325 N Wells:
• 9:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m. June 27 through June 30
• 9:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. July 1
• 9:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m. July 5
• 9:00 a.m. through 7:00 p.m. July 6
• Students unable to pick up regalia at the above times can pick it up at the Arie
Crown theater the morning of the ceremony beginning at 11:00 a.m.
During Regalia Pickup:
• Complete the Grad Survey
• Pick up regalia
• Receive guest tickets & ceremony information
Picking up your regalia early gives the gown time to dewrinkle and lets you make
sure everything fits!
Please hang your gown and hood to dewrinkle - DO NOT DRY CLEAN!
Guest Tickets
Each graduate is able to request up to 7 tickets through the Intent to Participate
form.
• Additional tickets can be requested by emailing
[email protected]
• One ticket per seat - “babes in arms” do not require tickets
• Tickets will be distributed with regalia
At the Ceremony:
• Tickets will be checked at the door of the Arie Crown Theater (guests can keep
tickets as souvenirs). Do not lose your tickets! Guests without tickets will not
be admitted until all ticketed guests are seated.
• Seating is general admission, so instruct your guests to arrive on time. The
lobby opens at 11:00 a.m. and doors to the theater open at 12:00 p.m.
If you or your guests require accessibility accommodations (accessible seating,
elevator access, sign language interpretation, etc.), please contact ACCESS
Services at [email protected] ASAP.

Please note: many other downtown Chicago hotels are also convenient to the Arie
Crown Theater. However, the Taste of Chicago is happening the weekend of the
Commencement ceremony, so competition can be stiff. Your guests are
encouraged to book a room ASAP.

Distinguished Alumnus of the Year, Dr. Orson Morrison.

Ceremony Information
Date: Thursday, July 7, 2016
Place: Arie Crown Theater, McCormick Place
2301 Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, IL 60616
Schedule:
• Graduate check-in begins at 11:00 a.m.
• Accommodated seating begins at 11:30 a.m.
• General guest seating begins at 12:00 p.m.
• All graduates must be in line for the processional by 12:45 p.m.
• The ceremony begins at 1:00 p.m. and typically lasts 2.5 hours

Getting to the Venue
McCormick Place is accessible by both CTA and Metra. Transit directions:

Taxi services pick up and drop off at McCormick Place. Cabs should be available at
the McCormick Place taxi stand (not directly outside the theater!) after the
ceremony, but you are encouraged to arrange your own ride.
• Tools such as the Curb app and Taxi With Us can help you call a cab from your
smartphone
• Please note: rideshare services such as Uber and Lyft may be unable to pick
up or drop off at McCormick Place
Parking Lot C places you directly outside the Arie Crown. Parking is $23. Driving

Notes for Guests
Guest seating begins at 12:00 p.m. for all guests who do not have specific
accommodated seating needs.
• Seating is general admission
• Guests may begin lining up no earlier than 11:00 a.m.
• Lobby seating is not available, so plan on standing if you arrive before noon
• Do not exit or enter during the processional or recessional
McCormick Place has some vendors for food, souvenirs, flowers, etc. but their
hours vary depends on the venue’s event schedule. We cannot guarantee that all
businesses will be open, so we suggest eating before you arrive and bringing items
you may need with you.
You are more than welcome to bring any small items that make the day special, but
please do not impede other guests’ enjoyment of the ceremony. Items that make
loud noises or block guests’ view (balloons, large signs) must be left behind in the
lobby during the ceremony.
Graduate Check-In
When you arrive at the Arie Crown, proceed to the student check-in table on the
main floor.
• You will receive a line-up card at check-in. Do not lose this card. It will have all
information needed to announce you on stage
• We will have plenty of volunteers available. If you have a question, just ask!
• Don’t carry anything with you that you don’t want on stage—this includes
purses and cell phones
Notes on attire:
• Robes will fall about mid-calf
• Your hood will be some combination of white/dark blue/light blue, depending on
your degree
• You will need to walk up and down stairs, please plan footwear accordingly!
• Graduates are encouraged to dress up for the ceremony/receptions: business
casual or professional attire is recommended

Grad Images will take individual photos as graduates exit the stage
Seated portraits will also be available backstage during check-in (11:00 a.m.12:30 p.m.)
You will receive further information on how to order your photographs at your
TCS email address from Grad Images
Please take photos with regalia prior to arriving at Commencement
• Robes and hoods must be returned immediately following the ceremony
• Cap and tassel are “keepers!”

Your name will be read as you will walk across the stage to receive a diploma
cover
There will not be a diploma inside the cover!
Your diploma will be mailed to you 8-12 weeks after you finish your last
semester of classes
Master’s students will receive a diploma, shake hands, and return to their seats
Doctoral students will stand and wait to be hooded by their dissertation advisor
Please note: your tassel should be placed on the left side of your
tam/mortarboard and will not move during the ceremony

Degree audits are conducted to ensure that all program requirements have been
met.

TIP: Remember to complete the Financial Aid - Exit Counseling and/or pay
billing holds to prevent any restrictions on the release of official transcripts and
diploma
Thesis/dissertation and practicum/internship: Requires completion confirmation
before degree can be awarded
Degrees are typically conferred on the end date of the academic term in which the
student completes the degree requirements
Diplomas
Diplomas are ordered through Herff Jones and shipped directly to the student
Diplomas are typically printed and mailed 8-12 weeks after degree conferral
Diplomas are mailed to address on file with the school
Diplomas will be printed with the name given on the Degree Conferral Petiton. Any
changes once the diploma is ordered will be at a cost to the student
Doctoral diplomas measure 11 x 14” and Master’s/EdS diplomas are 8.5 x 11”
